Thank You Glass numbers - but where is it served from Kau - Puna - Hilo - to Honoka'a .Have you had a pizza Loco and if yes how much was the cost.
BTW Glass - FoodLand is also an Oahu outlet - it used to be Sak n Save but were bought out by FoodLand Oahu.
Zippy's for sure is Oahu as is LnL .
We still maintain that Cafe 100 at $3.95 plus tax is BEST original Loco Moco state wide - brown rice short grain cooked to perfection - egg scramble - extra gravy and big island grass fed beef.Ask for their loco moco card which they stamp and after x number of Loco Moco's bought - you get one free .Plus you can get free water at Cafe 100.
The fries though are WAY over priced.
Cafe 100 is The Original Home of the Loco Moco.
Every one should have one to keep a local big island establishment here to stay.

It doesn't seem like pizza loco moco is on the big island, seems a Honolulu thing.

They can keep it Glass N#s - a million people on the size of a postage stamp.A pizza Loco can be an Oahu item - not a Hawaii Hawaii item.

Glass - Next time you or momma come to hilo town - make a point of stopping in at Cafe 100 for their brown rice egg scramble Loco Moco.
They also have a pretty darn good beef stew but the loco moco in our perspective is best meal in Hilo for a Loco Moco.
Fun place to people watch .
Worst time of day though is from 11:30am to 1:15 in afternoon.
Heck you may even see us with the grand kids - all eating our own brown rice loco moco.
Some times Cafe 100 has discounted Loco's for seniors of 15 percent off so if your momma is a senior - save kala.

Agree on Cafe 100, so many choices. My fave, fresh grilled (not fried) fish loco, usually mahi mahi or ahi. With brown rice, even healthy. Great local experience for sure.

Hilo's own.... the 'Loco Moco'

History and origin
The dish was reportedly created at the Lincoln Grill restaurants in Hilo, Hawaii, in 1949 by its proprietors, Richard Inouye and his wife Nancy, at the request of teenagers from the Lincoln Wreckers Sports club seeking something that differed from a sandwich, was inexpensive, and yet could be quickly prepared and served. They asked Nancy to put some rice in a bowl, a hamburger patty over the rice, and then top it with brown gravy. The egg came later. The teenagers named the dish Loco Moco after one of their members, George Okimoto, whose nickname was "Crazy". George Takahashi, who was studying Spanish at Hilo High School, suggested using Loco, which is Spanish for crazy. They tacked on "moco" which "rhymed with loco and sounded good". To Spanish-speakers, however, the name can sound very odd, given that they hear it as "crazy snot" (moco is Spanish for "mucus").
