Someone fell in last night after dark. Police did what they could from shore at that time. Helicopter arrived at first light, surveying the coastline and maybe a 1/4 mile out in the ocean.
Perhaps 30-40 people gathered along the cliffs.

Anyone know what happened to the young woman rescued a few weeks ago? Did she make it?

Update, Tuesday Evening:
The helicopter recovery search area was expanded beyond the Paradise Dr / Maku’u Dr area today. The victim was a young Micronesian man about 30 years old. A large gathering of 50-70 family members, friends, and congregants from his church held vigil all day along the cliffs, sharing each other’s company, while keeping a close watch on the ocean as part of the recovery effort.

Update, Wed evening:
48 cars were parked along Beach Road this evening (I counted them). Approximately 125-150 people stood in groups along the road, across the cliffs, and beside the shoreline, still staring at all the waves between land and horizon, watching for any unusual color, shape or movement. The family and their friends were, along with the missing man, from Chuuk, one of the Federated States of Micronesia. Their vigil was quiet, somber, even the children who occassionally chased each other across the lava did so in an unobtrusive manner. Over the years I’ve witnessed a search for perhaps four or five drowning victims along the coast in this general area. I’ve never seen an outpouring on this scale, or anything like it. Wednesday would be the third and last day for the helicopter search.
