As the pool doesnt splash!
From letter today to our reps

I talked to aquatics directors office today. Pahoa pool repair went out for first bid and got none. Its in second bid phase, the vendors has to be approved, than they MIGHT let me know whats the time line after that. It could be somewhere between a couple months and a year??????!!!!! The best info they could give me. I asked how come the pool people dont know what happening ?.

She said they didnt need to know???. I said since they are the interface betweeen the upset public (for 8 months of no water recreation)and aquatics, maybe it would be good for them to know. She said oh we just got the money, I said BS. The mayor just would not use the emergency funds to get the pool fixed because he just doesnt care that the poor kids and and handicap persons cant use it. And i cant get any info from the Mayors office.

Thanks again for all the help
Aloha
Dan

I just sent the following electronically to Harry Kim's office:
Dear mayor Kim:
I love to swim, particularly in a pool. I miss the use of the Pahoa pool. When can we expect the pool to re-open? Punatalk seems to indicate a lack of straight answers to this question.

Let me pose a direct question: When can we expect the Pahoa pool to be back in service?

Has it's condition been evaluated? What needs to be done to get it re-opened? What is the time line? When will the public be told exactly what is going on and who is responsible for the process?

Whom do we need to speak with to be informed? Too many people in County employ play the 'buck passing' game. Please designate a spokesperson for this procedure and make the name and contact methods known to the public citizens who will, ultimately, pay whatever bill is incurred (Even if the money comes from State or Federal sources, it will ultimately be tax payer money) Thank You. You're asking too many questions. If do you that to a public official, you will be considered "vexatious."

There will be a sudden announcement when it's finished.

On the plus side, the information will be 100% accurate.

Hubby drove by the pool on Friday. He saw a woman taking pictures and a man using a measuring device. Gave me some (false?) hope progress was being made.

A follow up reply from our rep Eileen Ohara. Thanks for your service, and helping puna.

As of noon today, I am no longer your county representative. But, I couldn't agree with you more. The administration doesn't give a rat's ass about helping Puna recover. Example is the Nov. 17th "affordable housing fair" paid for by FEMA and purportedly for Puna relief. The only suggestion I made was to please collect statistics regarding how many attended and whether they were lava evacuees or impacted by Hurricane Lane. They didn't even do that as the notes from the event report "the attendance was just right". What the hey???? are we writing fairy tales a la Goldilocks? Repor also states that 14 people who attended registered with FEMA. The administration spent 3 months planning this housing fair and the report says it will be duplicated in Kona in June 2019 without an emergency response component. That whole effort was about addressing affordable housing, a need that has existed for some time and is needed islandwide at all times. It didn't address Puna relief, as this administration has only one objective for that as stated in many of Kim's recent public interviews. ....make the people of Puna move out of the district. It's so sad that Puna has once again been discriminated against.

Please, please, go quietly into the night. A new County Council was sworn in its time to let go and move forward with them. Hopefully they will be focused on the community and not themselves. Congratulations to the new County Council.

New County Council sworn in yesterday. Today is the day for us to:
1. Update our Council member's contacts (phone, e-mail, fax, website)
2. List our particular interests as to what we would like to get done.
3. Contact our representatives.
4. Post copies of our requests on Social media (punatalk, Facebook, etc.) to keep our friends and neighbors in the loop and to track responses.
Let us remind new and old Council members in the nicest possible way that they represent us and we expect more from them than has been done by past Councils.
