This is nothing new nation wide or unique to this island ,
The feds pay peanuts to Drs nation wide,
BC is run by a Dr who served time in federal for being drunk on the job and over charging the feds on medicaid/ medicare . also flying his private aircraft while drunk .

Then lets not forget our small town Dr Stover who killed patients on a regular basis because he got paid more by the feds to cook the books and over charge the feds to get rid of the poor amongst us .

Or Dr Geiger who gave out to much pain meds and a patient had to sit through an hour sermon of his faith - in order to be seen and charged the feds for the hour long visits . His punishment was 10 yrs on Christmas island and then banished for life from Hawaii the state .

And recently a 80 or 90 something Dr busted by the feds for charging to much for over prescribing pain medications and taking kick backs .

There are 2 new Drs in hilo - both female but do not prescribe pain meds nor take medicaid .

Our Dr is in Kamuela and is local born n raise .

Does not except medicaid / medicare - cash only , $600.00 per visit 3 times a month at North Hawaii Community Hospital .

Some of the doctors I've been reading about in this thread must have attended an offshore medical school, where they offer new graduates a choice of vows:

Hippocratic Oath?
or
Survival of the Fittest?

Dr Mitchels office was origionally a group of 3 new drs that were paid extra to come work rural Hilo. The first Dr left right away. The clinic than had 2 aprns, and 2 Dr. They left within 1 yr. The office has been toxic since Dr Dueller left. (Hes in waimea now) he was very good and one of the best aids drs, helping the comunity alot on both sides of BI.

Its not unusual to see other Drs chased out of one practice on another island come here. We are very vulnerable on east side, lots of immigrants. Case in point Puana pain clinic.
Was in Maui ,came here, nowgone. Why? They only hurt my 80 + yr old mom twice.

Get 3 opinions b 4 seeing your new pcp. Lots of advice here on punaweb. Lots of great Dr here.
Aloha

So I tried to make an appointment for a physical with Dr. Mitchell, who I thought was my PCP, and they told me I'm no longer their patient.

Apparently if you are so healthy that you don't need the services of a doctor for a few years, they dump you without telling you.

In order to be seen by her majesty I would have to sign up as a new patient (even though I wouldn't be a new patient).

But they are no longer accepting new patients, even the ones that aren't actually new.

I could potentially understand this policy if it was communicated to me but it wasn't. The only way to find out the clinic has dumped you is when you need to see them. An advance notice, a postcard, anything would have been nice. All the eye doctors, pharmacies, etc that thought they were sending my exam notes and vaccinations to my PCP were sending them into a black hole.

Now I'm really glad I didn't contribute to their gofundme. That would REALLY have been a slap in the face.
