We currently are using ATT and get horrible reception where we live in lower HPP. Heard about consumer cellular from a friend who lives in Fern Acres and they get great reception up there and a very reasonable plan. Was wondering how good the reception is in lower HPP. We're on the dead end on 5th off of Makuu. Anyone use another carrier that works well in HPP?

I have Total Wireless, which uses the Verizon network. Works great in lower HPP. Bought it at Target, $35 a month with voice (300 min), unlimited text, and I don't know how much data - - but it automatically connects to wireless in the house. iPhone for $130, older model but does more than I need it too, and syncs everything with my iPad.

I had the Consumer Cellar service two years ago. Was so horrible I switched to Verizon. Verizon rips you off but Consumer Cellular doesn't provide good reception. Hardly ever got multiple bars unless I was in town. Many dropped calls and zero service. Not sure how it is these days. Maybe better? Maybe same?

I believe Consumer Cellular uses the AT&T network.
I have it and it's great up in Mountain View. Drove to Ka Lae the other day, and had 4G LTE most of the way. And I'm a fan of the service. But I'm not sure you'll get different results than AT&T.

Try T-Mobile, about $50 a month, no contract, works in lower HPP, unlimited calls, text and data and also unlimited text and data almost all over the world. Ask about the 55+ Unlimited plan.

I've had it a couple years. Love it. $20 a month & perfect for my needs, meaning unlimited text, 250 minutes & 250 data. Reception is great, much better than past cell phones I've had.
Edited to add: 4 bar reception at upper Makuu.

I have consumer cell at bottom of makuu. I was told CC uses ATT towers which means No reception at home. That's how I have a quiet life.

Cell Towers:
Verizon: Church on highway at top of HPP, Keaau, Pahoa
ATT & Sprint: Keaau, Pahoa
There is also a carrier with a limited hotspot in the middle of HPP, perhaps T-Mobile? Would someone please confirm or correct?

T-Mobile has a tower in Nanawale but other than that, service is almost non-existent as you get towards Leilani and further South. Verizon has the best coverage overall on the island.
