"Do you like your beer more hoppy or less hoppy?"

I tried responding to this last night but PW was down when I tried.

Less hoppy, without a doubt. There are some nice beers you can buy in Hawaii that don't have that excessive hoppy taste (plus some are allergic to hops). For a standard lager that isn't too hoppy, Longboard Island Lager is OK but not my first choice.

There's a coconut porter that's available here now, brewed locally, which I think is really nice, but can't remember the brewery, but I think it's made on Maui. It's very nice but quite strong.

Highly recommended. One of the nicest porters I've tried.

I'm with you on this. Hops, IMHO, should be used sparingly. Just enough to provide an edge but not overpowering the malt.

However, I'm more into Single Malts, Ryes and the like these days.

But...but...what about this?

Hops are for more than just flavor, hops have a chemical called lupulin which can get you high. If i have trouble sleeping a strong hoppy beer really helps to put me asleep as lupulin has a sedative effect. Hops are in the cannabaceae family of plants which consist of cannabis and hops.

I don't particularly want to piss of you beer drinkers but it is my observation that there seems to be an odd ingredient in most if not all beers. An odd ingredient... as they drink the drinkers think they are getting increasingly smarter when the exact opposite is happening.

Has any one else noticed this?

Yes, I have.
I think it’s called the Bud wiser effect.

Lol!

I think that's just a stage of the drinking process - for some. The "professor" stage...
