In any discussion of politics and taxes, I operate from two strongly held beliefs:
1) All political parties are comprised of thieves whose only real variation is who is going to get fleeced and who is going to derive the benefit; and
2) Your tax money is probably best preserved when at least two, more or less equally power-balanced, gangs are after the same pile of tax money - because, if either one gets too generous to their cohorts, the other will scream bloody murder...
With one party holding all the power, as has been the case for five or so decades here, there really is no accountability...

This is my last warning about streaming off into national politics.
Do it again and there will be consequences.

I am trying to find the edges of this policy.
You posted about the GOP in HI prior to WWII and I came back pointing out the Internment of Japanese Americans, many from HI, and you deleted it. Is that too "National" for this forum?

It is. FDR is not germane to Republican rule in Hawaii prior to WWII.

Got it.
The internment of Japanese Americans in and from HI is not "Hawaiian" enough because it was ordered by the President of the US, whose authority, while including Hawaii, also included somewhere else.

So, what is the point of your post exactly?

No, you did not get it. There was no internment of Japanese Americans in Hawaii. Maybe there were some on the mainland, maybe not. That was the mainland.
But I was suggesting you take a look, if you are interested, in Republican rule in Hawaii prior to WWII.
You could perhaps start with The Overthrow.
Meanwhile I am not enamored or impressed with what now passes for Democratic leadership in Hawaii. But it could be worse.

Hi, Rob:
re internment of Hawaiian Japanese. University of Hawaii Library indicates that Hawaiian Japanese were interned, both in Hawaii and on the mainland.
