there is gonna be NOTHING left
I see that you are correct. An education for me. Honouliuli it seems contained a number of international detainees including a small number of Japanese Americans.

The history of internment of mainland Japanese Americans has been recognized as an unconstitutional act... and publicly regretted. Tens of thousands of Japanese Americans were not interred in Hawaii which makes me wonder about the small number interred at Honouliuli.

But I still fail to see what the point is as relates to the history of Republican rule in Hawaii prior to and somewhat past WWII and the history of the 442nd Battalion and the role those highly decorated veterans, as Democrats, played in overthrowing the Republican control in Hawaii Post war.

That event was considered good news at the time and a lot of positive things reformed Hawaii. Over the next fifty plus years the positive things have given way, in my opinion, to the current level of graft and corruption.

But FDR played little or no role in local politics prior to his death. And the Honouliuli internment, new to me, appears to have played little or no role in local politics at the time either.

So, what is the point of your post exactly?

IMHOthe author is attempting to assert that their memories, are painful AND long, they are very selective, skewed, of course, against the GOP.

You need to look deeper into the role of Republican leadership in Hawaii prior to and through WWII. That history precedes the Democratic control of Hawaii and left a lot of bad feelings which linger to this day. Democrats gained thorough control here for reasons, not by accident.

Some forget the nuances of a free country being overthrown, their people subjugated into plantation workers who collectively, finally, saw the light of their emancipation through the bravery of the 422 and the wisdom of those heroes to take everything the GI Bill would give and rise above the limitations of their heritage. Nope, folks ain't going to soon forget, if ever, the true difference between those who profess to adhere to the ideology of one party or the other. Not when the islands' history is so graphically written with their deeds.

Nothing like living in the past to keep you from moving into the future. Myopia x tunnel vision to the power of astigmatism. Stuck on blind!!!!

What are you talking about? Not that I particularly care though. If you think attacking me personally, when I am merely discussing Hawaiian history with someone who does not live here, your stay here will be very short. You have one brief moment to walk it back.

Open-d,
Have you read The Shoal Of Time by Gavan Daws, or other reference book on Hawaiian history?
If not, what would you say is your leading source of information about Hawaiian history from approximately 1850-1960?

So 70 years later I'm to put up with the state of affairs of this Hawaii, exacted by the democrat machine and remain silent? NO

Frank, Who has suggested you should remain silent on your antipathy for the current Democratic control of Hawaii? Not me. Just don't wander off into national politics.

HUH ?

"Chinese laborers were the first immigrant group to arrive in Hawaii for work on the plantations and numbered more than 50,000 between 1852 and 1887. Many also arrived to work on rice plantations throughout the Islands, which replaced kalo (taro) as a mass-farmed crop at the time."
