I see that you are correct. An education for me. Honouliuli it seems contained a number of international detainees including a small number of Japanese Americans.
The history of internment of mainland Japanese Americans has been recognized as an unconstitutional act... and publicly regretted. Tens of thousands of Japanese Americans were not interred in Hawaii which makes me wonder about the small number interred at Honouliuli.
But I still fail to see what the point is as relates to the history of Republican rule in Hawaii prior to and somewhat past WWII and the history of the 442nd Battalion and the role those highly decorated veterans, as Democrats, played in overthrowing the Republican control in Hawaii Post war.
That event was considered good news at the time and a lot of positive things reformed Hawaii. Over the next fifty plus years the positive things have given way, in my opinion, to the current level of graft and corruption.
But FDR played little or no role in local politics prior to his death. And the Honouliuli internment, new to me, appears to have played little or no role in local politics at the time either.

Assume the best and ask questions.
