It's in reference to glinda's post.

He was saying that the Hawaiians were forced to work on the plantations because of the overthrow.

I suspect that did not work out well for the plantation owners which is why they imported various groups of foreign labor. Large land holdings were held by (mostly) missionary families. Later they evolved into what is called The Big Five.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hawaii's Big Five

C. Brewer & Co.
Theo H. Davies & Co.
Amfac
Castle & Cooke
Alexander & Baldwin

The Big Five was the name given to a group of what started as sugarcane processing corporations that wielded considerable political power in the Territory of Hawaii during the early 20th century and leaned heavily towards the Hawaii Republican Party. The Big Five were Castle & Cooke, Alexander & Baldwin, C. Brewer & Co., American Factors (now Amfac), and Theo H. Davies & Co.[1] The extent of the power that the Big Five had was considered by some as equivalent to an oligarchy. Attorney General of Hawaii Edmund Pearson Dole, referring to the Big Five, said in 1903, "There is a government in this Territory which is centralized to an extent unknown in the United States, and probably almost as centralized as it was in France under Louis XIV."[2]

I am not referring to you (assuming your post was directed at me). I have no idea what your politics are.

What I am referring to the people of Hawaii who blindly support the Democrat party to the point of creating a single-party state.

I am not dealing in the past. I am in the here and the now. I have general, but not in-depth knowledge, of the history of Hawaii, and frankly don't care.

"All that runway behind you", said the Instructor pilot, "is of absolutely no use. Only the runway in front of you matters".

For whatever reason(s) or causes, the presence of a one-party mentality will not end well. Members of that party have your vote already, and don't have to earn it. You are taken for granted (and, in fact, are).

Competition for your vote, between multiple parties, is far better for the people.

And you are right. So what? Are you intending to vote for them? You are assuming they "are blind in their support". Rather presumptuous actually. Perhaps the history of the past affects them in ways you care nothing about.

I am genuinely interested as to how you have such a shallow interest in history yet think you can pass yourself away as some sort of authority. If you don't care about the history of Hawaii, why on earth are you discussing it? History is a great learning tool and stops us from making the same mistakes over and over again. Someone with an admitted lack of in-depth knowledge of Hawaiian history lecturing those that live in Hawaii seems utterly ridiculous to me.

You did the same thing regarding the scientific community here, telling them they have no idea what they are doing or how they analyze data; yet you don't even understand basic science. Maybe you get a kick out of appearing uninformed? Or is it simple trolling?

The one and only reason you are where you are, is due to the runway behind you. You wouldn’t be where you are, without the runway behind you. Failure to understand that concept will hamper your use of the runway ahead of you, even if it’s a thousand miles long.

Dang, Open-D, you really present yourself as an intellectual. I'm convinced! I mean, you clearly don't know anything about history or science, by your own admittance, so obviously you must be right!

Friends of mine died in Vietnam. Friends of my parents in Europe and the Pacific. How long did it take them to "get over it"? Not long. They all did, moved forward and all were the better for it.

Frankly, the same "The South will Rise Again" mentality that still exists, to a degree, in the South, seems not only to be "in play" but "at the helm". They should get over it, but they can't, you see, for they are stuck on blind.

The past has no effect on them whatsoever, EXCEPT that which their pettiness forces on them. It'a a force ONLY in their "stuck on blind" minds. Forget about the Stars and Bars, forget about Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee, forget about the CSA and secession and look FORWARD, rather than back at the runway behind you. Those that have, or will, will reap the benefits. Those that won't, will hold up not only themselves, but the rest of the state as well.

As far as being blind in their support, you asserted that yourself due, as you state, to events before WWII. I didn't presume it, you asserted it.
