Southwest Airlines - announcement coming..
It sounds like a fantastic airline, I don’t think I’ve ever flown with them. I hope that changes soon.

Just have to get use to their seating policy(which is unassigned). But if I recall... All Hawaii inter-island flights use to be unassigned in the past until Hawaiian became a monopoly.

Southwest has now added $29 one way interisland flights to their website. I spot checked and found KOA-HNL flights beginning on 12 May, but the cheapest tickets were sold out for the first few days. Plenty of $29 seats (unassigned, of course) in June with four flights each way daily. Further out, they have loaded flights only as far as early October with prices at $49 and $59 each way. Hopefully they will keep their promise to serve Hilo.

$29.00 one way fares are available from Kona to Honolulu starting May 18th. But you have to buy it by tomorrow. Hilo doesn't look like it's going to be included for either mainland or inter-island Southwest routes. It Figures. One has to wonder why they even bother keeping the Hilo Airport open with all those gates sitting vacant day after day.

Maybe later on they'll add Hilo. I for one didn't expect ITO to be one of the first airports they'd be adding to their route map.

I think Southwest is missing out on how many people commute from Hilo to HNL every day. When I take either of the first 2 flights in the morning I tend to see a lot of the same people.

This is all great news, not just for us but also for tourists wanting to come to Hawaii. Too bad they won't have anywhere to stay.
