Bullfrog trap?
#1
Been trying to catch a noisy bullfrog in our pond for several weeks. Not a Cane Toad, those are easy to catch. This bullfrog doesn’t hypnotize when you shine a light on him, he never gets out of the pond, and I can never get close enough with a net. Anybody have an idea of how I can trap him? Trap design? Bait?

Spears and gigs won't work. He just said you can't freeze him with the headlamp to get that close. You can try 22 pellet if his head peaks out of the water and he is still. I never heard of trapping in Hawaii but you can "youtube" your way to some ideas from other parts of the world. I do the hook and line, but even that requires you freeze him with the light to get close enough. The hook can have a worm, piece of cloth, coqui frog, minnow, or nothing at all.

Never tried this myself, but if you have a fishing pole, the video at the end of this article might be worth a try:

I always used the frog gig from a shallow draft boat or canoe. They were up on the bank and they only way they could jump was in the lake.
We were waiting.

Now I just go to the grocery store and buy frozen frog legs.
