Supply / demand economics is not a scam. The state / county has made it impossible for new businesses to move in and let the free markets work. THAT is the scam.

Hilo Walmart has problems keeping layer feed in stock, so they raise price, and they still have problems keeping it in stock, so they raise price, and eventually for some people it becomes cheaper to tack Walmart onto their 4-hour RT Costco run.

We have one of those in Hilo, it's called Cost-U-Less.

ONE time, and ONLY one time, I saw a box truck on the side of 130 selling Costco staples like toilet paper, paper towels, etc. I guess it didn't work out for them.

This is the scam to which I refer.

Not to cross threads or anything, but: HPIA, anyone?

"This is the scam to which I refer."

I stand corrected, and yield the remainder of my time.

"Question for those who order - - do you receive advertisements or coupons via the app, text, or their website? That may also help the company offset expenses for their service."

The answer is: APPARENTLY YES. After browsing the ordering web site for awhile, I noticed my adblocker seemed to be interfering with the site. I'll post more details if I figure it out more completely, but they aren't ads in the traditional sense, it's product placement in the search terms.

ETA: less content.

So basically SHipt here on the Big Island is just a Target grocery and household items delivery service with free delivery with purchases over $35.00. Not many people (if anyone) would use it for Safeway unless they could get the club card discount. Walmart would have been a logical add on for shipt...but if Shipt is owned by Target..they won't want competition that might under price them. I've decided not to use the service at this time. Maybe later when they get approval to deliver alcohol and pickup prescriptions.

You can purchase your stuff on the Target web site "pickup in store" option without ShipT and get it later that day. That way when you get your beer and Rx the rest of your shopping is already done.
