Cop being charged with stealing drugs
#1
Yeah, it's the Kona side. But, this one really pissed me off. The cop that is being charged with stealing drugs from the evidence room.

So I have a question......

Cop commits crime while sworn and get busted but is allowed to retire.

Do they void his retirement or do we keep paying his salary after he commits a felony while sworn?

Some states have laws in place to do just that.

Can't even see Hawaii until you zoom out on the map but there it is. Grey colored. No law.

Somehow not surprised.

"KAILUA-KONA — Lawmakers failed this session to pass legislation that would strip state or county employees of retirement benefits if convicted of a felony.

Sen. Breene Harimoto, D-Pearl City, Aiea, Lower Halawa, Pearl Harbor, presented Senate Bill 496, which he said didn’t even get a hearing. The senator has presented the same legislation for at least three years without success."

"Sen. Les Ihara Jr., D-Kaimuki, Kapahulu, Palolo, St. Louis Heights, Maunalani Heights, Moiliili, Ala Wai, has been introducing bills related to forfeiture or reduction in benefits since 2006. Since 2007, he’s introduced 12 bills, none of which got a hearing."

Seems I made an error about the cop that hit and killed the bicyclist with his car and then claimed someone else hit him and that it was a hit and run. I thought he wasn't charged. I looked into that, and he was, indeed charged. I removed that part of my original post in starting this thread. Getting old and feeble minded it seems. 1000 pardons for that.

I made an error about the cop

If there wasn’t so much misconduct reported in the news about police officers, county workers, and state employees, we wouldn’t have to work so hard to remember who did what, to who, and when.

Yeah, I was going to correct Jon about the details and then realized I was thinking about a different incident, where the (deputy?) fire chief ran over a cyclist while drunk, fled the scene, and then claimed his wife was the driver when he was found. IIRC he was eventually charged but it took three years or so.

And if I remember that one correctly, he got a whopping 3 month sentence.
