Kamaaina rates?

We are planning to stay at a hotel in Kona next week (just one night) for my wife's birthday. And I can't seem to find any Kamaaina rates. They have a senior rate and AAA rate and military/government rate but seems like the Kamaaina rates are gone. Even Uncle Billy's in Kona doesn't have one anymore. Have I missed something or am I just not looking in the right place? Not willing to pay $300.00 a night when we can just drive home after some shopping and dining.

Don't rely on the internet! Call and ask. You will most likely get a better rate even if it is not labeled as "kamaaina".

Kama'aina rates are a joke.

Hilton Waikoloa rack rate is $300+, Kama'aina is $200, but you can book on Hotwire "express deals" between $100 to $150. Add $45 to each for BS "resort fee".

Have you checked Manago Hotel in Captain Cook. It is not near the beach, but it is nice and clean and the whole place is kamaaina. We are not beach people, so we always stay there.

I have nothing new for you, but was going to also suggest the Kona Seaside. Ask about getting a free breakfast at the Splasher's restaurant in the morning.

We've stayed at the Manago aslo. No TV or wifi, but it's good too. The Seaside is just across the street from the beach in Kona.

I've been able to get hotels to remove the resort fee. I asked to speak to the manager and asked them what it included and I replied I couldn't use any of those things. If they persist, tell them that charging you for something you can't use isn't a fee, it's just the cost of the room and you're going to file a complaint with the federal trade commission and the better business bureau, and also the state GET office and the IRS because they are collecting taxes on fees for services not provided.
