Meanwhile you guys can just joke, talking about fingerless aliens and galactic passports and freeze rays. All good. In fact it is expected because it is so hard to believe.

When someone you know very well with nothing to gain from lying confides with you it can change your opinion and perspective.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've seen a UFO. I do not, however, think it had anything to do with aliens, but I didn't know what it was. On the other hand, why is it that those that watch the skies the most and understand what they see, amateur astronomers, seem to be unrepresented in the UFO claims department? Many of them operate right here on this island but I don't know of a single UFO claim by any of them.

And just to add to the fun, many years ago when I was driving back down from MK to Hilo, I suddenly saw a very bright light behind my vehicle and it startled me, I thought there was some incredible bright thing following me down the Saddle road and yes, it was silent.

Turned out it was the nearly-full moon. But for a minute or two it certainly gave me the heebie-jeebies.

I'm sorry, ElysianWort, but UFO's don't exist. Neither do ghosts, demons, angels, werewolves, or vampires. You want to know the truth? any evil perpetrated is done by humans. That's the brutal thing that people aren't willing to accept, it has to be some otherworldly thing so foreign as to be alien, demonic, something the opposite of humanity. I understand the impulse, more than you know, having had the **** beat out of me at a young age continuously due to autism. I used to think I was the only human and everyone else was literally wearing a mask, because nobody made sense to me.

After years, I matured and I realized that this was just how people were, this is humanity. Janus. I have to admit, it has never made any sense even now, but that's humanity. Somehow, they are the beautiful people we live our entire lives for, and also the cold hateful disgusting pieces of **** that steal the meaning from life for no personal gain of their own, all at the same time.

By the way, do you know why I'm so dismissive of your idea? It's not because I think you're dumb, or that I've labelled you. It's because as someone who has survived many dense layered years of physical, getting-punched-in-the-kidneys abuse, I've looked into abuse a little bit. I'm not an expert, but I have definitely identified a thread where the mind of a person breaks like a hammer cracking a fibula bone. They dissociate the original event due to the extremity of their pain warping their perceptions. This happens on such a transformative scale that the only logical explanation is aliens, because that's what they remember; An event so unexplained and so alien to them, that it has to be aliens. I understand that feeling intimately. If you're curious about learning more, there's a movie called Mysterious Skin, about this very topic.

UFO's don't exist...

Said with so much conviction, even though by the nature of the subject it can be no more than speculation, just like any other opinion. Though I will observe that once one locks themself into such a firm belief one does close the door on other possibilities, and as such limits their own ability to perceive reality.

Lacking any credible evidence for alien-origin UFOs, the choice of some people to believe says more about them than the UFOs.
Huh, I thought this stuff died out years ago. Come back Opihikaobob, you're in fashion again!

Its easy to dismiss things that are hard to accept. The fact is that otherworldly entities have been around for thousands of years. Depictions of flying craft have been scratched in rocks and painted all over the world with cultures which had no known contact or knowledge of each other. The epic tales of India. The written history of sumer. Renaissance artwork. talking of flying craft with otherworldly beings on them. The 1561 Nuremberg Germany incident as described a battle between two foe's in the sky. Some of which crashed to the ground and was so obvious they could tell which side was winning. This was published in the towns gazette. This is also followed by another similar incident a few years later. Even the US government admitted (1952) to the existence of unexplained craft that were not part of any government program and concluded that there was no evidence of threat. There was also that one time when a fleet of flying craft were seen flying over the US capitol building.

There are literally thousands of credible witnesses including astronauts who have given testimony to what they have seen.
The only reason that someone has not seen one of these unexplained craft around is that they just aren't looking. They spend most of their life looking at their feet instead of looking to the sky.

its easy to lump it all together with ghosts, vampires, werewolves etc. But I dont know of many historical accounts where entire villages witnessed them at the same time or had the US govt investigate into their validity and have a press release stating so.

UFO's don't exist...

UFO's do indeed exist .... that's non debatable. The question is are they earthly made or otherworldly made.

.. if you dont know what it is, it's an Unidentified Flying Object.

One has to wonder, if we are all alone in this universe... what an incredible waste of space for such a small planet.

I am almost 100% certain that alien life forms exist, just based on probability alone.
That same probability makes me almost 100% certain that they haven't been here.

Ghosts and spirits have been around for thousands of years too, in people's imaginations. Don't tell me people still believe that hoaxer Von Daniken.

If we have UFOs here then where are the pictures? Everyone has a camera now. And as Tom pointed out, why do astronomers, the best qualified of all for looking at the sky, not see them at anything like the rate of amateurs like us.

It might serve to read oink’s link.. Project Blue Book has some very compelling examples..
