TMT Construction Can Proceed
#91
Remember the tale of the people of Tierra del Fuego?

It’s not a tale. I don’t believe or not believe people lived in Tierra del Fuego based on my personal world view as you assume i do in your treatise on haole traits. It’s documented by Charles Darwin In Voyage of the Beagle. That’s why I take it as fact. It’s not an assumption on my part.

Is there any corresponding evidence for a year around Hawaiian outpost on Mauna Kea? With naked soot covered residents keeping warm from the constant burning fires? Or did you forget in your comparison that trees grow in Tierra del Fuego, providing wood for fires, while there is no wood at the summit of Mauna Kea?

You certainly make a lot of assumptions about my beliefs, how they come about, and that I carry a native haole trait of assuming “others see things the way we ourselves do?” Maybe some people have wood allowing them to survive in cold conditions and others don’t? Maybe one case is documented and the other isn’t?

Assumptions not required.

I certainly agree with that. It seems that some who oppose the TMT believe their truths outweigh facts and evidence.

glinda,

"Is it a haole trait, or a human trait, or what, to assume others see things the way we ourselves do? I don't know its origin, or how universal it is, but it is a strong force in keeping people from truly understanding each other. Especially when crossing diverse cultural grounds. Unfortunealy we do not recognize this enough to work around our assumptions and achieve true empathy."

You can say whatever you want, but I think the question is whether you have evidence of anyone living in the summit area of Mauna Kea. If you have evidence they did, then post it. If you don't then what on earth is your point?

Remember the protester who brought a canoe up there? I guess anything is possible (if you have a big 4 x 4 truck).

Yes, I remember that. Fortunately, that episode doesn't seem to have been brought up again. I think it's a fair assumption, no matter what glinda says, that ancient Hawaiians did not build their boats at 9000 feet.

I’m not sure why anyone is debating with that guy, I know we are all old enough to have met those people before in real life or on punaweb whose views are set in stone no matter what is said.

On punaweb...
Think EW on round up.
Airport/POG not really sure what his problem was but damn he disliked Tom.
Gypsy - anything rational I think he disputed.
Opihikaobob - crazy with geothermal and aliens (2 for 1 nutter)

Now apparently we have Glinda who can’t be contradicted on anything volcano/lava related or native/haole centric issues.

We can all keep playing as a caped crusader and contradicting his outrageous claims, or we can just stop poking the troll under the bridge and get on with our lives.

Update on the TMT's NPDES permit renewal.

Aloha Aaron,

I'm sorry about the delay in replying. As you know, DOH received oral testimonies from the public requesting a contested case hearing. At this time, DOH is consulting with our legal counsel to determine the appropriate procedure for receiving and processing these unusual requests. As this information is determined it will be posted on our DOH website at http://health.hawaii.gov/cwb/clean-water...d-updates/.

Is it worth playing the game of spot the lie? I see at least seven in those three paragraphs alone.

It seems Honolulu Civil Beat has now removed that article from their website.

I was looking at the TMT's NPDES permit renewal application. They submitted it back on November 2018. It took DOH until March 2019 to start the renewal process. I'm amazed it took DOH that long to process their application, especially since nothing materially had changed with the existing permit that was expiring in June 2019.

Aaron, I really respect your tenacity at getting and sharing information from various state agencies, but such incompetence on their part is no longer amazing. It is routine.
