I read about protestors prep for the remnants of Flossie today. A contingent may be left in place?
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had emergency workers tell me I was under an emergency order to evacuate due to hurricanes that changed course 48 hours before they reached the island chain and would miss Hawaii Island entirely, or tsunamis which registered 1 foot or 14 inches on the ocean bouys. They insisted I had to go despite updated forecasts.
We are definitely in the era of ala carte rules and regulations, and optional law enforcement. Nice for those who get the free pass.

Yes the Hawaii island "optional law enforcement" policy born of nepotism/racism has always been the case here. And finally has become glaringly transparent to the whole world overnight.

I'm just amazed by the lack of lawsuits.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — The director of a Spanish research center says an international consortium that planned to build a giant telescope on Hawaii’s tallest peak has decided to seek a permit for an alternative site in the Canary Islands.

Reni, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser is covering this story, too. Here's a link that could go behind the pay wall any time:

Seems like a fall-back, however. From the article:
"However, Rebolo insisted the consortium that already obtained a permit in Hawaii still plans to put the $1.4 billion telescope on the top of Mauna Kea."

Closer to the Earth, so it should be easy to fix, closer to Europe where most of it is made anyways, someplace where there is less danger of being overwhelmed by the Nerd Hordes, closer to the Pope who is the one that really needs to think about this stuff after all ... right?

I keep wondering how there aren't more lawsuits being thrown around, but then I remember ... court judgements aren't relevant anymore.

I just heard a Kia'i present a really good argument. He said let's decommission 1 telescope first and see how much desecration/problems occur during that and then decide if we should put one up that's 5 times bigger. That's reasonable right?
