Access to Mauna Kea
get more details if possible which I can then pass onto the relevant authorities.

TomK,
Would it be possible for scientists and students to request a police escort through the blockade? Those with legitimate business on the mountain could show their ID to actual officers of the law, who then would tell protestors the people they’re escorting are legally allowed to pass without interference.

The County has provided plenty of services and safety measures for the protestors, they certainly can assign an officer to help people continue on to their place of work or study without interference by self appointed protestors who impersonate ID inspectors.

Don’t know if this is legit or not, but he fakes an arrest. Surreal.

A few thoughts here that are bound to piss someone off. Sorry for my ignorance, but why are their two laws to go by? I can understand if the entire island is classified by the U.S. As a"reservation", and Hawaiian law takes precedence, but if it is not then why a "double standard" instead of DHHL land under "reservation", or Hawaiian law, and non DHHL land under U.S. Law, as on the mainland.
If they cut the food deliveries and periodic "star" appearances would there really be that much of a draw for the cause?
What if we did "go back where we came from". What would be the outcome if we packed up all our "Western" big box stores, car dealerships and let them become sovereign without U.S. Support? Could one survive without welfare, EBT, etc.? What if another Country like Japan, who already has vast real estate holdings here, and has overpopulated and ecologically trashed their island and desperately needs to find another home, or China. You can bet they don't have programs like the U.S. gives out, and you can see how China deals with protests.
In all, one should be very careful what they wish for. The U.S. may not be perfect, but it sure is a lot better than other places.

I would rename myself Kamehameha and ‘unite’ the islands, because that’s traditionally acceptable right?

Just came back from a round trip to Kona taking my son to Kona Aurport. I'd guess there were about 2 cop cars at the access road area, which is blocked off of course.

why a "double standard"

Because they can.

I've wondered the same thing -- it's part of the "double standard" where they hate haoles while making use of all that haole innovation, such as when driving gas-powered vehicles up a highway to occupy Mauna Kea with pop-up tents, cell phones, single-serving bottled water, etc.

What do the protectors think about the County/State plowing through/destroying the lava flows put there by Pele herself in order to reopen access to roads in lower Puna?

That’s an interesting question. Why is Pele’s flowing lava not to be diverted, but once it hardens, it’s bulldozed, dug up, crushed, and sold without a peep from anyone?
