Are there other “sacred” mountains in the world
#21
Hard to believe that some people will make up this stuff without researching

But... but... Carey - - I read it on Punaweb! And it cited a source without a link! And no one corrected it. Are you suggesting there might be other comments made here that aren’t entirely true?

The indigenous people of the Canaries were the Guanche. They were largely exterminated by the Spanish in the 15th century although some elements of their culture does remain according to Wiki. It's doubtful they would protest against TMT.

Maybe this thread should be retitled "Mountains that astronomical observatories can be built without pissing off someone"?

Will we always cater to the irrational? Maybe there shouldn't be anything sacred, aside from knowledge and human rights.

In the 19th century the doctrine of manifest destiny was considered sacred.

Trouble is the folks on the MK access road think they have the knowledge and are fighting for human rights.

Thought, thinking is sacred. Progress without thought is desecration.

Even at my age, I agree with randomq's opinion of the Mons Veneris.
