No need for overtime with so few police up there. I went to Kona yesterday and drove by there twice.

Now those police are making Hawaii County money...

How is that costing millions of dollars?

Most of the current estimates put Hawaii County police overtime at $3-$4 million. Not included is everything else, which is substantial, DOCARE, Honolulu police, equipment purchases prior to the start date (with the expectation of protests), Honolulu freeway slowdowns and convoys, and possibly time spent by government officials on the situation.

An argument can be made some of those costs are baked into salaries of government officials or on duty emergency workers, for example, when a fisherman is lost at sea the cost for Coast Guard time, equipment, and crew is usually estimated even if they were on duty at the time anyway.

Seems this threats issue just escalated to federal level now. I would bet the FBI are on the case now investigating. This media release was just a warning to people to stop putting themselves in legal jeopardy.

They do have an excellent point, if the leo's feel that their lives are under threat, they will be much more likely to shoot anything that they perceive as a threat. Perhaps that is the protesters goal, sacrifice a few of their own?

The situation is getting out of hand.

America has a bitterness industry where people make a living keeping others angry. It does not matter what the issue is "Activists" get off on controlling others, and they can also make a living from their sponsors and adoring followers.
If I want to keep my monopoly, I get someone to protest the competition coming to my area. If I want to hide my questionable activity it helps to keep the masses spending their energy on nonsense. That way they are distracted from real issues that would make a difference. The Mauna Kea protest is at the right time, but in the wrong place, for the wrong reason. It should be in front of DHHL, or OHA, or somewhere it might actually matter. Of course when it is all over everyone will be exhausted and alienated from each other, and it's back to business as usual.

Mission accomplished!

We need to be more unum and less pluribus, but it's always in the interest of the oligarchy to have the opposite.

The FBI is on the case since this Facebook post Friday:

“Mass shooting in the hawaii state Capitol this weekend who’s coming?”

The threat was posted Friday at the bottom of video of Gov. David Ige’s press conference in which the governor urged both sides in the dispute over the Thirty Meter Telescope to halt all threats and hate speech in the dispute over the months-long protests on Mauna Kea.

Behold the power of social media! Now I'm reading the protesters are claiming this shooting threat was really instigated by pro-TMT forces to make them look violent. Again with the back and forth in social media. Accusations of lies from both sides.

Whatever the case may be, whenever there is a contentious issue both sides accuse the other of many of the same things. For example both say the other is racist. One side says the other is anti-haole. The other side says TMT is racist because it's not yielding to the beliefs of an indigenous downtrodden people. Same with bullying. Pro-TMT says they are being threatened with physical violence while anti-TMTs say they are being threatened by legal physical force from police or NG. Which side is right? I'm just a bystander and really don't care if they build TMT or not but to me it seems one side is playing the victim here. Is there any truth to the pro-TMT belief that the majority of kanaka support TMT or is this just propaganda as some say?

Just a few rambling thoughts on this complex issue.
