earthquake!!

Just heard from someone who lives near Honolulu. They really felt it there, no power or phone services. She called on her cell phone. Got several emails from concerned California friends who heard it on the national news.

Glad everyone is ok. The news hit the front page of nytime.

"Kona Community Hospital on the Big Island of Hawaii sustained significant damage, so officials were evacuating patients and workers. Gov. Linda Lingle of Hawaii was on the Big Island, staying at the Mauma Lani Hotel, when the quake rattled the building.

“It shook very strongly and knocked the televisions off the bureaus in the hotel,” she said on KSSK Radio in Hawaii. “TV’s fell, books fell, mirrors fell off the wall.”

According to CNN report there was extensive building damage in some areas..

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/15/hawaii....index.html

"Bill Wong, a Big Island resident, said damage to buildings was extensive. He said the 100-foot-tall stack to a century-old sugar mill collapsed into a pile of rubble. "Everything in our house is damaged," he said. "Our whole house was rocking, it was swaying from left to right," he said. He described his neighborhood after the quakes as looking "like a war zone."

Aloha Everyone, just a note to send our thoughts and prayers to all involved in this lastest Quake. We can't imagine having never experienced a real quake before only one around 2.0 and we thought our furnace was coming apart. To see one's house actually shaking back and forth must of been unnerving! Glad to hear no injuries reported. Those with stone chimneys, please look them over carefully, I would be fearful for damage, watch for rain coming through any mortar cracks, for those chimneys inside the home.

Again, Aloha HADave

That was COOL! We looked out from the bed and just watched the earth rock and roll. Our kitten was freaked out though. Largest quake we've had since 1983.

Hey Cat, are my Kapoho lots underwater now?

(I loved it, but my hopes and prayers go out to anyone that did suffer damage)

Punaweb..your Puna news source...lol

We had no damage in Kurtistown ourselves.

I havent been following the news much cause they throw any ole thing up and call it news until they actually have real news and accurate assesments of damage. I'll find out what fully happened in a few days when they figure it out I guess.

Did get calls from relatives i havent talked to for a long time.
