Spray bottle of 3/4 water, 1/4 bleach and a flashlight. One squirt is all it takes and won't hurt the plants we have.
A possible new coqui strategy

Well glad to hear I’m not the only one still fighting the fight. Just trying to keep them away from the house so I can hear myself think. I remember they used to recommend lime to cover large areas. Also some sort of pipe traps back in the day.

I found a powerful green laser on Ebay and I first blind the coquis for a few seconds so they are easier to catch. I then scoop them up into the small plastic containers I used to recycle, snap the lid on and toss them in the freezer. When I take rubbish to the transfer station I always add in the frozen critters and spoiled food scraps from the freezer.

I also don't mind the call of the coqui- except when they're outside on my bedroom window.
This has worked for me: I buy a sprayer and mix hydrated lime and water. It tends to mess up the sprayer after awhile so I use a sprayer specifically for this purpose and mark it. Spray the mix on your pillars of your house or around the cement pad so they have no way of climbing on your house without passing the hydrated lime mix. The lime has to be the powder, not the granules obviously or it won't mix at all. It leaves a coat of whiteness wherever you spray so keep that in mind for aesthetic reasons. The lime coat will stay there for a long time if it doesn't get wet and the coqui's will not pass the barrier. This method works well even around the house when we are in drought mode but it's been a super wet winter so far. |
