Willard Scott is not a biologist and has no idea what he is talking about if he says sunlight and not temperature is the key to getting stone fruit to produce fruit. One might get stone fruit trees to produce in Volcano or on the slopes of one of the volcanoes IF they were "low chill" type trees. "Winter chill" means temperatures below 45 degrees but above 32 degrees. Even "low chill" trees require hundreds of these hours.

Sorry. Didn't make myself clear. But this was long time ago. He didn't say anything about fruit but about fall foliage or cherry blossoms in the spring.
