I have a message in to Larry Brown asking for any Planning Dept. views on Mr. Fukumoto's concepts. It will be interesting to see what the professional planners think of the "Second City." Initially it seems like a very big effort but appears to simply revolve around building several new roads, doing some zoning at the intersections and letting nature take its course. Definitely applicable to our growth management theme.

Aloha! This is David Fukumoto, author of "Puna at a Crossroads!" that began limited distribution in September. The essay has been revised with additions.

I like the Second City idea, especially because of the potential for job creation.

I think you should also contact the Puna Community Development Plan Economic Opportunities Working Group, which will meet for the first time on Wednesday, October 25th at 5:30 in Pahoa.

Aloha...thanks Rob and Pete for bringing David Fukimoto's thinking into the mix. Being proactive provides opportunities for all of us. I live in HPP and I find much of our energy is expended defending ourselves from outside pressures that view our subdivision as an obstacle. PMAR was a case in point. Hopefully, large thinking, respectful thinking, will engage more people in thinking beyond protecting turf to embracing possiblities.
