And only a handful of human beings had ever been in an airplane. Maybe that's why it took 3 years to wreak it's carnage.

Spanish flu (and Covid-19) are viruses. Azithromycin and ANY other antibiotic will have NO effect on them.

Yes Wahine, the comfort of our homes is truly a blessing, and our culture of aloha may be the single greatest asset any community has, and omg I hope you find your way safely back to our shores.

Normally that would be true but the malaria drug apparently only works against 19 when used with the Z pack.

Likewise, when my dog died in the 1990's from Parvo they said antibiotics wouldn't help because parvo was a virus. Now they know that most dogs that died of parvo died from secondary infections that were usually from bacteria. Parvo (virus) disease transformed from a disease that killed almost every dog that got it to one that most can survive with aggressive treatment but only if it includes antibiotics.

A keen student history such as yourself should know that there have been many many plagues and pandemics throughout the ages, most far worse than this one.
It's still sucks to live through it, but the sky ain't falling.

As for civil war, I haven't seen any mobilizations, maybe it was just political hyperbole?

Interesting counter-bit of info: given the drug and ventilator shortages, most people now won't have access to these either. Sad truth but there just isn't enough to go around so many people will be on their own just like 100 years ago.

Since fatalities are mostly in people above 60 years old, perhaps a government agency could reissue the protection and survival method we in that age group were taught in the 1960’s, Duck & Cover. We already know the technique, and I’m fairly certain Duck & Cover might be as effective against COVID-19 as it would have been had a Russian nuclear weapon popped off over our city, while we cowered in our classroom under a wooden desk.

Can only imagine the Corona Cafe documentaries made in the future - the government once told people that masks used by medical staff for decades actually don't offer any protection for the general public. And people believed them, just like those kids under the desks or diving for the curb for protection from a nuclear blast.

Multiple generations can all bond while sharing their favorite government propaganda from ages past.

It seems that if its a working treatment, then why would you ban prescriptions for a drug. Unless you wanted people to die, or maybe because orange man mentioned it a time or two.

Maybe have a look at this video (https://vimeo.com/399733860) made by a doctor on the front lines in NYC. He states pretty clearly that the public don't need medical grade masks - simple home made masks that inhibit your touching your face, are entirely adequate to provide 99% of the protection you need (along with washing your hands and social distancing)...
My opinion is that by focusing on medical masks - rather than making your own simple mask - you are practically ensuring that people will have no masks because they are unavailable and you will contribute to the shortage that exposes our medical professionals - the only people who can really help treat this disease - to increased likelihood of infection.
