We're Doomed
#1
Have a look at this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq2zuE3ISYU&feature=youtu.be

It tracks visitors at a Ft. Lauderdale beach (during spring break) back to their places of residence. (you know that you are carrying your own tracking device didn't you?) Let's play the vector game...

Would really like to see a similar tracking exercise for Hawaii.
But makes the point for why social distancing is so vital.

So why is "We're Doomed" the title of this topic?

I am not fond of hyperbole.

This forum punaweb was a vital resource during the lava event 2018 for so many of us in lower Puna. It would be nice if it was again treated as such. Too much fear mongering now and that helps no one. To handle any challenge one needs to accept reality, keep a level head and always look for solutions. All these negative predictions and political bashings are disturbing and counter productive.

007, still trying to deny reality? You want to go on a trip down memory lane? Look back at all your it's no more than the common whatever statements..

Geochem is right on. Knowing how things spread, knowing what we are up against, is paramount to developing plans to deal with it. Geochem is helping.. your use of the term "fear mongering" in response to his post is not.

Too much fear mongering now
...
a trip down memory lane?

Remember Ebola? Here's a Punaweb prediction from the midst of that crisis:

...up to date data.
If we use the infected number of people since December of 2013 it's 7,491 people in ... 9 months with a death toll of 3,439. ... a mortality rate of 49.908%.

1.392^68.43749985 = 6.766 billion infected with 3.106 billion deaths.
The 68.43749985 represents 22.5 months into the pandemic or 68.5 iterations of 10 day periods and we are currently 9 month into it. This means we have approximately 13.5 months remaining until the majority of the 7.1 billion world population is infected.

The final count in America was 2 cases of Ebola, and no deaths.
If I remember correctly, we were all going to die from dengue fever too.

The original posted question was fine. It was the "were doomed" part that I objected to.

So why is "We're Doomed" the title of this topic?

Maybe it's an Excalibur shout-out. "Remember it well then, this night, this victory ... For it is the doom of men that they forget."

Or perhaps it's a sly Tolkien reference - The Gift of Iluvatar: mortal men, Doomed to die
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/450965-...-whether-i

Either way, forgetting or death doesn't sound like hyperbole to me - just the facts of life.

(bet you didn't see that one coming Wink

I don’t think some people are taking the social distancing thing seriously. I saw a large group (about 15) of twenty-something’s out walking some holding hands. I also saw a couple of pretty large parties where there were at least six cars.

Or maybe they were just large families and I’m mistaken.....

Saw 5 people running into each other and hugging at the Orchidland True Value a few hours ago. Not taking this seriously.

ETA: The "We're Doomed" thread title unfortunately sounds appropriate.
