We're Doomed

hokuili - Well what about Ice? Heroin? Oxy? What are those that need it going to do?

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/wxek4...l-and-meth

I'd add that most fentanyl was manufactured in China, conveniently overlooked by the CCP, for export to the West (The Opium Wars Strikes Back) but that might be too hot a hit for some.

Look in your medicine cabinet.

Dental floss? Deodorant? They're welcome to it if they need it. Although it’s my understanding that a dedicated meth head no longer requires dental floss. I don’t take any prescription drugs, so have none in the house. Maybe I should tack a helpful note to that effect on my door though, so the prescription drug thieves questing for a fix don’t go through all that bustin’ breakin’ and searchin’ for nothing.

Pardon my ignorance but how does heroin and meth usually get to Hawaii and why would that stop now?

They all know that's the best way to protect a stash though...

Same way everything else does - it's shipped in. If you bother to read the article linked above it explains why the supply is being impacted. Horse and water, pigs and songs, never ends.

Supply problems lead to higher prices, not absence. Hyperbole as usual.

Well then what's the big deal with call for medical masks, ventilators, and other PPE? Surely there isn't a critical lack just more expensive ones available right? Oh wait, all those knowledgeable folks say otherwise - you know the ones that did their homework.

You going to bankroll all the addicted out there to help cover the increased costs now and increasing supply shortages as this goes on? Because of course all addicts have infinite cash flow to procure their fix. I'm guessing some of us are going to help out one way or another.

The largest distributor of narcotics (and blood sport animals) is the USPS. The only form of mail that the shipper provides a "consent to search" is media mail. Any other package requires a warrant to search. The other shippers like FedEx the customers agree to a blanket "consent to search" during the account sign up process.

ETA: The USPS just received 10 billion dollars as part of the virus stimulus package. Since I'm paying federal taxes, why won't they deliver to rural Hawaii? Maybe some punawebers who are more savvy than me at pinging elected officials can raise this flag?

Over sensationalized? UN chief doesn't seem to think so...

UN chief says coronavirus 'worst crisis' since WWII

The United Nations chief has warned the coronavirus pandemic presents the world with its "worst crisis" since World War II, with the number of dead in the United States now higher than in China and hard-hit countries in Europe reporting their highest number of deaths in a single day.

The US announced some 800 deaths on Tuesday - bringing the total to more than 3,700. It also has the most confirmed cases. China has reported 3,282 deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Spain, the United Kingdom, France and Italy each reported their largest single-day increase in deaths since the start of the pandemic. Some 12,428 people have died from the disease in Italy, the world's most seriously affected country."

USPS. The only form of mail that the shipper provides a "consent to search" is media mail. Any other package requires a warrant to search.

From the USPS Inspector General’s website:

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s narcotics program is intended to protect U.S. Postal Service employees at nearly 32,000 facilities from the dangers of handling packages containing illegal narcotics and ensuring public trust in the mail. The Postal Inspection Service conducts investigations of individuals attempting to use the mail for drug trafficking. In fiscal year 2015, the Postal Inspection Service seized about 34,000 pounds of marijuana from the mailstream.
