My heart is heavy today. John Prine has died. RIP
Assume the best and ask questions.

He was a good man. Great songs, great albums, a voice for those often overlooked and ignored.

Make me an angel that flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go…

Stephen Colbert is doing his late night show from his home and last week announced that John Prine was put on a ventilator. They played a 2016 duet that Stephen did with John Prine, "That's the Way the World Goes Round". Brought a tear to my eye. Here's a link:

One of the truly greats. I was going to post about this earlier but worried it wasn't Puna-related. :-)
Certainty will be the death of us.

Very sad to hear about this. One of the last folk singers of our time.

Forgive me for saying so, but I'd never heard of John Prine until today. I watched the youtube song on Kander's link. It reminded me of modern day Bob Dylan. Clearly a very talented artist. I'm sorry for your loss.

So sad about John Prine. "Angel from Montgomery" is one of my all-time favorites.

Although Dylan enjoyed much greater commercial success, in a comparison of their originality and creativity, IMHO Dylan comes up far short of John Prine... Prine was a contemporary of Dylan's and had far more influence on him than Dylan had on Prine who was the original.

Prine was a contemporary of Dylan's

Dylan's first album came out in 1962, John Prine's first album in 1971.
Dylan loved Prine's music though:

Mr. Dylan, listing his favorite songwriters in a 2009 interview, put Mr. Prine front and center. “Prine’s stuff is pure Proustian existentialism,” he said. “Midwestern mind trips to the nth degree. And he writes beautiful songs.”

I liked what Roger Ebert wrote about John Prine, even before a record had been recorded:

Not long after, Roger Ebert, the film critic for The Chicago Sun-Times, wandered into the club while Mr. Prine was performing. He liked what he heard and wrote Mr. Prine’s first review, under the headline “Singing Mailman* Who Delivers a Powerful Message in a Few Words.”

“He appears onstage with such modesty he almost seems to be backing into the spotlight,” Mr. Ebert wrote. “He sings rather quietly, and his guitar work is good, but he doesn’t show off. He starts slow. But after a song or two, even the drunks in the room begin to listen to his lyrics. And then he has you.”

Been stuck on listening to Prine's music the last couple of days.
Gonna miss him and more music from him.
