Somebody should inform the Vice President...

Oops, cross over post! Doesn't this actually belong on the humor thread?

I had to throw that in Edge, after all the tears are shed all we have left is humor. And to see the stuff CNN isn't broadcasting, because allowing liars unfettered airtime is after all a disservice to their viewers, is heartbreaking. Watching the WH goes on day after day telling us how great they are while the scale of the crisis in the USA is so far beyond the rest of the world, isn't just pathetic, it is really scary. But such is the nature of the beast, eh? I mean, by any measure, we have failed more than any other country on Earth to address this crisis. And still the chief executive and his minions go blissfully on..

To put what Pence is defending in perspective take a few moments to watch the recent segment of the Rachel Maddow show at:

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watc...1814597573

Here Rachel, graphically, demonstrates the response and subsequent scale of the covid-19 outbreak by country, and shows just how disproportionately the USA response, number of infected, deaths etc, is to the rest of the world. Without acknowledging this disparity any defense of the US response is just reckless endangering of our lives. Without acknowledging that the USA has fallen to levels lower than most third world countries how are we going to be able to rebuild our country? Without acknowledging our shortcomings (which, admittedly, many Americans are in general unable to do) we will never be able to recover to that once great status we had when the rest of the world followed us.. if we recover at all.

And still, there's a glimmer of Hope. I hope that our, Hawaii's state government, is able to join with California in creating our own unified response to this crisis. After all, if history has taught us anything it is the amazing things states can do when they are united.

but the scale is not far beyond the rest of the world.
Yes, there are more infections due to there being a lot more people living in the united states. Yes there will be more deaths than the rest of the world, because again large population. (wait till India gets sick)
Death per million is still at 49. CDC says to doctors that if they "think" they had covid and died put that as the cause of death. So, you could forget your parachute and jump out of an airplane with symptoms of covid and possibly die from the disease.
This will make mortality rates from covid spike drastically. Even if your on hospice for some other disease. Thats never been done before.. why now?

Sorry not watching the conspiracy theorist maddow. Its as bad as watching beck just 180 on the perspective.

Plus facts, research, and best recommendations at that moment.

Sorry dude, you must have not done well in math..

USA Population: 328,239,523
Total USA Cases: 452,582

Which is fine, you can run the numbers to do your percentage game.. but when you consider that China's population is..

China Population: 1,438,070,898
Total China Cases; 82,883

Again.. if you can figure that out, I would love see you show us how the USA is not the sickest joke on the planet. Go ahead kander, let's see you spin that.

And yeah, if you aren't willing to look at cold hard facts, and still want to cling to your 'conspiracy theorist' BS, as if the truth is some version of a guy pulling levers in a place called Oz, fine. Just don't try telling people you have a clue, or expect us not to laugh at you.

I should add.. just to help you with the math, and all the visualization, plots and graphs, that can help you in your statistical analysis you might want to visit this (seemingly) not politically motivated site. This one is put together by the University of Oxford, who are the scientific editors of the website content; and the non-profit organization Global Change Data Lab, who publishes and maintains the website and the data tools that make it possible, at:

https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus

Scroll down, you'll be amazed at all the information available. Mouse over any graph and you can highlight individual lines on any plot. Individual countries. As such you can isolate out and see just how the USA compares to any other country. You can see our deaths, our rate of infection, our inability to 'flatten' the curve are all the worst in the world. Go ahead kander, let's see you spin all that.

Definitely, we need to follow China's lead on COVID-19 - but first a couple of humble questions:
Does anyone believe China's numbers? at all?
Even if China's numbers are anywhere close to accurate, does anyone wish to trade China's regimented social oppression to achieve those low numbers?

What success (as dubious as I am of their numbers) China has achieved may have come as a result of routine, universal restrictions on movement of the vast majority of its citizens: "You want to go to Honolulu next week? I'm sorry, you will first have to get an approved transit document from Party Chairman Kim before you can do that...."

I... don't... think... so.

Although I will acknowledge that easy restriction of inter-island travel, now that we have active cases here, may be our salvation (if the idiot faction of our island population would just practice good hygiene and social distancing).

Its only funny if you actually think that the numbers reported from china are accurate. So, tell us all about how enlightened you are while quoting fear porn from maddow.

Its not my math. the math has already been done on numbers reported by each government state.

Maybe not as doomed.

S. Tokunaga Store, Inc

For everyone’s safety...we will be enforcing a NO MASK, NO ENTRY rule at our store starting Thursday, 4/9.
Our Fishing and Diving Department will be able to offer a ‘personal shopper’ to help those that do not have a mask. The ‘personal shoppers’ will ask them to stay outside while they gather their item for them.
As for the Firearms Department, no personal shopper will be available, you must wear a mask to enter.
Thank you for your understanding and stay safe. #socialdistancing #staysafe

I agree geochem, we can not trust the numbers from China. I say that only because of their insistent need to spin things to their favor. Not that I have any idea on their reporting of this particular crisis. Their test rates verses ours verses the rest of the world. There are so many unknowns. But the same is true for the current USA executive's reporting. So, we're left wading through a morass of information that will take a long time to be sifted through. And still, even if we agree it's all vague and only relative, we still see a very disturbing pattern in the USA's lead in all things, except containment, as measured by world wide statistic..

If people can't stomach Rachel I would hope they'd find that University of Oxford site useful.

I am just amazed how we, the USA, is leaving the rest of the world behind. In every way we are turning COVID-19 into something so much worse than the rest of the world. So much worse than it has to be.

And while I don't agree with authoritarian governments, I think our freedoms have left us unprepared to live without guidance in the face of these types of dangers. Guidance our current administration is wholly incapable of providing.

Why are we "leaving the rest of the world behind" (although I don't accept that premise)?

Simple answer: too high a proportion of stupid, arrogant, entitled jerks in our community. I'll refer you to the earlier link I posted in this thread showing where "spring breakers" dispersed to after a visit to a single beach in Ft. Lauderdale... Multiply that by all Florida beaches and California beaches and you have the entire country blanketed with vectors.

The travel freedoms we enjoy, in addition to the broad economic success that supports discretionary travel, make this country the perfect petri dish to spread infection into every community. And the entitlement attitude that "I don't have to social distance" because it might be a little inconvenient, ensures that within each community, everyone gets a dose...
