"Big Island Mayor Harry Kim Thought He Was In Tune With Voters"

Really?
If Kim really thought he was in touch with voters then clearly it's the right time for him to retire.

He can't tell "voters" apart from "special interests" any more. You're right, time to go.
I'm going to go turn on my unpermitted window A/C unit now to celebrate his loss.

Harry’s Mauna Kea Access Road voting block didn’t materialize out of thin air, like a protestor’s near infinite list of telescope atrocities, subjugations, and assorted environmental, cultural, & religious desecrations.
“Now that is the wisdom of a man, in every instance of his labor, to hitch his wagon to a star, and see his chore done by the gods themselves. That is the way we are strong, by borrowing the might of the elements. The forces of steam, gravity, galvanism, light, magnets, wind, fire, serve us day by day, and cost us nothing.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

In the general election he faces a Hawaiian activist candidate from the Aloha Aina Party and a totally crazy candidate from the Republican Party.
Fixed it for you.

One of the candidates for Mayor, the one with only a high school degree and no relevant experience, has announced that he will compensate for his lack of qualifications by hiring Harry Kim as as advisor.

He also saw nothing wrong with packing 40 people mask-less on his Covid Boat causing the Keaukaha cluster. He also doesn't want to renew the astronomy lease on MK, but can't explain how we will replace the $90,000,000 per year it provides our economy. Something vague about growing hemp, since we all want to live like third world farmers...

Harry Kim received 15% of the vote in the Primary Election. I take that to mean 85% of the electorate has thanked him for his service, and hope he enjoys his retirement. Maybe Marzo believes he'll pick up the 15% who were Harry Kim voters with Kim as advisor, but what it really proclaims is "meet the new boss, same as the old boss."
I won't get fooled again.

My support for Roth was solidified when my idiot neighbors put a Marzo sign in their yard. They threw several large parties with no social distancing and no masks whatsoever while such gatherings were prohibited. There are lots of other reasons they are idiots, but that one seems most pertinent to the current discussion.
Also, don't forget that Kai Kahele participated in the same superspreader event as Marzo and snarled insultingly when a reporter asked him about it. I voted Libertarian rather than vote for Kahele even though I know he will win.
