You'd think the pandemic would change some minds about TMT, but the idiots just don't get it.

That’s part of the protestors master plan.  Get “The Others” to leave the state, move into any vacant house they want, call it some version of The Kingdom, fly large flags, and I as far as I can tell the strategy hasn’t yet moved into the How-Do-We-Support-Ourselves phase.  I think a lot hinges on leasing out military bases because jet planes and battleships have never been known to leak a few ounces of a petroleum based substance, like a telescope.

Federal funding doesn't mean the feds can overrule state actions...or inactions.

All we really need are some grownups to provide adult supervision. I don't care if they're Federal or State, or even government.

The Hawaii County Ethics Board met Wednesday, and many asked why the law isn't enforced at Mauna Kea Access Road.  One example:

“The protest camp is illegal,” said Lisa Malakaua, who filed the petition along with Mike Nathaniel. “Why is it that the county can enforce the law everywhere else but not in this situation?”

Another:
“We have laws in place for a purpose — ... “If our state and county officials find it difficult to be impartial when exercising their duties, then they have no right being there.”

One of the TMT protestors complained about a lack of public notice, although the meeting is posted both online and at the county building.  She then called the Ethics Board unethical:
“I don’t believe your commission has provided ample public notice to give the public an opportunity to testify. … I believe that was clearly unethical,” Wong-Wilson said.

In the end the board postponed any action until September.

The county ethics board is a joke anyway, but isn't delaying what our local and state government entities do at every decision point? They totally lack backbone, except when it comes to imposing taxes. They're johnny-on-the-spot with that.

The TMT announced a new proposal which included outreach with Native Hawaiian groups.  No details were specified but The Protectors immediately joined in with Groucho Marx from a scene in Horsefeathers, singing “whatever it is, I’m against it:

I was reading a story on the Tribune website and this came up. Not realizing it was old, I clicked on it. It is essentially the same story as the very first link of this thread. It's interesting to read it now, after all we've been though.

A couple of memorable quotes:

Same here, although it was about a month ago when I saw the story and clicked on it. I was very surprised as I'd heard nothing about TMT resuming construction and in fact, I had been told the opposite and that it wouldn't restart until 2021. It was only when I got towards the end of the article I realized something wasn't right as there was no mention of the protests in 2019, just 2014 and 2015. That's the moment it twigged the article wasn't right and then looked at the date - it was from July 2019.

It's interesting to read it now and see how badly we were lied to by the govenor and state attorney.

I was coming back from Kona and saw what appears to be post office boxes at the shack near Mauna Kea access road, at the "encampment" if you will.

So... I can't get a post office box at my house in HPP, where I built a fully permitted home and pay taxes, or one at the post office, but if you build a shack on the side of the road you can?

Does KHPO (written on the side of the boxes) mean Kingdom Hawaii Post Office?  I wonder if their office accepts Amazon boxes to a physical address?
