"What the best paint to prevent rust on top of the Matson box? "

Quickest way to rust one of those out is to paint it. Every one I've seen that failed was because somebody tried to paint it. The rust (maybe "patina" is more accurate) is a feature, not a problem. The more it rusts, the more rust resistant it becomes. Weathering steel was invented to be splashed with salt water it's entire life without rusting out. Once you take it out of that environment it should last decades past its "expiration date".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weathering_steel

I knew somebody who bought one from the "experts" on Oahu that sandblasted them down to bare metal and then used their special "lifetime paint". The paint develops blisters (for lack of a better word) that traps water but also prevents the weathering steel from doing its job so it rusts "naturally". It started leaking in just a couple of years and they had to build a roof over it. They look all nice and pretty and white when they are repainted but its a sure way it will be full of water soon.

from the above article:

"a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance after several years' exposure to weather...painted weathering steel is no more corrosion-resistant than conventional steel, because the protective patina will not form in time to prevent corrosion over a localized area of attack such as a small paint failure..."

Sounds like Aloha Stadium? Maybe I'll make a rack for pv panels on top of the box.

It's not overbuilt to be "stackable" like Matson boxes.  So I thinking must be easier to work with cutting out doors and windows. Plus trying to avoid hooking up Helco so don't have the juice for power tools. Right now I quarter size hole for ventilation.

What the best paint to prevent rust on top of the Matson box?  911 Storage convinced me when you remove the paint layers the bare metal deteriorate readily. And conex box too industrial for that HGTV vibe.  If you look at the 911 tiny house that's as HGTV as I need.

Is there a way to post pics of what they are selling?  I text them like their ad says but didn't hear back.   Not sure why they can't just put the pics on the ad like everybody else.

Can look at their model on Keaau Hwy without the mods. Found another ad that looks like the homey HGTV friendly raw material that 911 Storage uses. Though I don't know if that where they get it from a San Francisco zip code.

I spend time looking for " container" on craigslist. There always seems ads looking to buy conex box. And enterprising sellers to meet the demand. I have seen ads with distant pics but no close ups at really attractive prices. I paid $11,000 for my tiny house and transport to Kona in 2 weeks. So looking forward to it.

Another ad from Oahu now

I doubt much demand on overcrowded Oahu. You need Pioneer types on punaweb. But I'm getting paranoid too. I hope my truck don't get a flat tire going past the big mountain?

Here's one that sets up in 90 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqXz5wpxasI

It looks like the same one.

Containers are made of Corten Steel. There is even a label warning you not to weld on on it or modify it.

It'll never rust fast enough for me. But only on specific spots I going outline with a marker on the side of the box.
