Essential workers 1a and 1b???

EDIT: title should be 1b and 1c. Oops. I see everywhere that the next phase of vaccine administration for the county will be group 1b which includes essential workers. Then phase 1c includes essential workers not included in group 1b. No matter where I look, I see no clear definitions of the two groups. Even on pages that refer to other pages for clearer definitions, there are none given. Any know of a source that actually lists what jobs are in each group?

Apparently the health department has asked employers to apply on a case by case basis for "essential" status, but as usual for Hawaii, it's vague and subject to political considerations:

Of course, the always cynical Frau Chunkster says that any government employee union member automatically qualifies. And she may be right because my neighbor who works for the county water department says every employee there was told they qualified, even those who worked in the back office and never come into contact with the public or don't actually provide the water supply.

Meanwhile, my 70-something neighbor with two co-morbidities can't schedule a shot.

I see in the Federal list of essential critical infrastructure workers that all water and wastewater staff are included in the high priority group. What I don't see on that Federal list is any essential worker that wouldn't be included in group 1b. There is no distinction anywhere that I can see between 1b and 1c workers. And in the Hawaii plan I see no mention of self-employed food workers or farmers. there doesn't seem to be any allowance made for them--only companies with employees.

Thanks for trying. But if you read through that, you will see the problem. There is no distinction anywhere between phase 1b and 1c workers. 1c is defined as workers not included in 1b. Huh? How is anyone supposed to know what that is? The only reference I can find is one from the feds that Hawaii directs you to that has no distinction between the two groups!

The plan is actually fairly clear on the difference between 1b and 1c. See page 5.

The real problem is that State isn't following the plan. Case in point: the Legislature should be 1c.

Check out the numbers on page 6. Phase 1 "priority" vaccinations account for 73% of the population. Huh?

My retired next door neighbor called 3 days ago to be put on the list for Covid vaccination... They called back a day later and gave his vaccination appointment for yesterday. He went and filled out some paperwork, showed them his Medicare card and got his first shot of the Moderna vaccine and got the second shot scheduled in a month. That was extremely fast. And he is only 68!!

@macuu222: Who did your neighbor call? The Hilo Medical Center is still not giving appointments to those under 75 or not in the ever increasing "essential" category. They are putting people over 65 on a waiting list, but none of the people I know on their list have been called as yet.

I'd rather not say just to insure he gets the second dose. But it seems that some places here are not too concerned with age as long as they are over 65.

Then maybe you shouldn't have said anything at all because now it looks like just another case of gaming the system or "who you know."
