Vaccine Rollout - State starts out with an 'F' but much improved, Big Island gets B+
Carey, thank you for responding. I know you have been busy. Perhaps different format documents were used for different events/agencies, and some individuals didn't have the resources for optimum documentation. I helped people sign up for several different vaccination events, including the one last week that so many queue jumpers showed up for. Since these folks didn't have computers, I used my PC and printer to help them, and I had no difficulty in printing the paperwork at home for them. I remember the required document with the scannable unique code having the appointment time on it. From what you say, the computer system they used didn't kick out the bad times when presented and the staff didn't have time to visually check the papers or phone/tablet screen shots. Hopefully lessons have been learned. The sad condition of the state's computing abilities is well known. Ask anyone who applied for unemployment.

As for that "essential" list, there were news articles on Civil List, the Honolulu daily, and other reputable news venues describing weak vetting. One piece even got a DOH official to admit that a they didn't carefully review all the applications for that status. Having said all that, I think things are going much better now, and I just walked some more people through the latest group opening. Went quite smoothly.

Finally, I want to thank Carey again for volunteering and sharing information here.

Tom: "no way to print out the online form" I do not know what computer system you use, both my husband (PC) & I (Apple) were able to print, & I have actually seen thousands (yup, sometime I look at almost a thousand in one day!) of folks that have printed theirs.... by far the majority of folks coming into our clinics have printed out their forms...

Carey - Many folks no longer have a computer - they only have a smart phone. While I am able to print from my smart phone (that was a pain to setup) I also have a full-size home computer/printer which is what I used.

My wife just got a CDC message to sign up with VAMS and pick a time. She's 64. She couldn't go with me when I got my J&J shot last week because it was 65 and over. But now when picking a vaccination center, all that's available is Moderna and Pziser. And she wants the J&J vaccine like I had that has only one shot. So instead of taking whats available....she's going to wait until it does become available. But will more J&J become available here?

@macuu222: In a discussion with reporters yesterday, Ige said that the state would receive more J&J vaccine "in the next week or so" with a steady supply thereafter. That implies, but does not directly state, that they used all they had received up to now. The same article says that the state will miss President Biden's May 1 goal to open up for all adults. That's actually not too bad by the standards we've grown accustomed to. Here's a link, but it may be behind a pay wall:

State is not the direct recipient of all vaccine shipments; some are sent directly to vaccination partners such as Safeway and CVS/Long's.

Hardly surprising given State's propensity to reprioritize. I believe the latest definition of 1C "essential" includes finance and communications workers, regardless of whether they actually have face-to-face interactions with the public. I'm still patiently waiting for Phase 2.

Yes, in Hawaii County, the DoH allotted Janssen vaccine was out on Tuesday & we are not scheduling the J&J Janssen at the moment  (for upcoming clinics) right now.
The CDC recommends taking the vaccine (after studying the vaccines available) that you can, as soon as you can....
If you have ANY questions on the vaccines available, it is best to contact your healthcare provider to make sure you are making an informed decision to delay vaccination.
ETA: At this point, Safeway vaccinations are still on Oahu (ETA2they start next week in this county-Moderna)), & CVS has not yet received Janssen, do not know if they will in the very near future

I got the Moderna vaccine today at the drive thru in Hilo. I was in and out within ten minutes, never had to leave my car.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Phase 2 is still months away.

My wife got the Moderna vaccine at the drive through clinic today.
She was transported there from Life Care Center.
Crazy that she couldn't get the vaccine while she was in the hospital.
It took one hour from when she left her room until she returned.

Thank you Cary and all of the heroes.

Just to clarify Kaliannas post....
NO ONE should be in & out in 10minutes!
Hopefully that was into the vaccination station & then out to the parking lot (for the required wait that you actually sign that you are agreeable to, again, part of the contract between you & the vaccine manufacturer...)
& yah, you wanna bring something to take up the time, if you do not like watching clouds, birds, volunteers &/or raindrops!

& we are really going to need more volunteers real soon, some of the ones that have been working the last few months have other things they would like to do...& we will be very short of volunteers starting in April if no new folks step up, as right now, most of the State clinics (DOH) have openings for 1/3 to 1/2 of the Non-medical positions, 2 weeks ago, when more slots were opened, they were filled.... now the open slots are not being filled...
