HPP dog attack?
#1
My husband saw a post on Facebook that said a couple was attacked by dogs that often run free on 12th Ave. near Paradise.  It said that they are now in the hospital with serious injuries.  Can anyone verify this?
Certainty will be the death of us.

Animal control has never been great around here, and the shake-ups in enforcement agencies over the past year or so has not helped. The police do respond, but the prosecutors and courts not so much. I'm hoping the victims end up OK, and the dogs and owners face consequences. I'm less than optimistic about the latter, though.

Just found out that a person driving down the road used her car to scare the dogs away from the victims. They were all seriously injured.
The Goodsam stayed with them until the paramedics arrived.

Hurray for the Goodsam. Hoping the people will be okay and that the dogs... won't.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Anywhere civilized, those dogs would be put down. But this being Puna, they will continue to patrol their road. #SameSame

Awhile back my gal friend was seriously threatened by 2 dobies while riding her bicycle around our subdivision.
Because of the local inbred fear of firearms, I could not accompany her while carrying one for her protection.
So, I picked up an assagai, a 3-4' jabbing spear, and carried it while accompanying her on her rounds.
I ended up facing them down.
They stayed back away because they didn't scare me.

Dogs don't scare me.
I've faced down several large barking, snarling, salivating, threatening rottweilers and similar large dogs on several occasions using a rolled up swimming towel or nothing as my threatening weapon.

You cannot show fear.
If they sense fear, that can cause them to attack, if they're inclined to.
Sensing fear can stir any animal to attack.
I've even turned a bear with out having to fire a shot.
I was sweating though.
Showing fear is your greatest danger in any confrontation with an animal, even with another human.
They sense weakness and easy prey.

Well, whether the three people were attacked because the dogs sensed fear or not, don't you think the victims should not be put in that position in the first place? This isn't the wild woods, it's a subdivision.

Wether or not they should have been put in that position has no basis in the reality of what happened in that situation.
Just in the U.S., over 40,000 people died in automobile collisions with 3.5 million injured, just last year.
No one should ever have been put in that position either, but it still happened, and will continue to.
Everyone seems to accept that because of various conveniences they gain by doing so.

The final responsibility for everyone's safety and longevity lies with the individual, not society at large.
They need to be ready to protect themselves, not depending on someone else to do it for them.
They can make all the rules and laws they want, but individuals taking care to not cause harm to others will never be eliminated.
I hold some of our illustrious posters here  up as examples you will recognize.

The situation has happened.
What happened, happened.
We'll never know what could or should have happened.
But, I still believe not knowing how to deal with personal threats was probably a major cause of the end results which was caused by assuming that someone else should be taking care of it for them.

Meanwhile, any news on these dogs? It would be prudent to destroy them before they maim a child, or worse.
