Notice from:the Office of Council Member Heather Kimball -
"UPDATE ON KOLEKOLE BRIDGE-
I was just at the bridge site and wanted to let you know the latest information. Currently the bridge traffic is being controlled and allowing only one lane of traffic, and no more than 10 cars on the bridge at a time. Vehicles weighing over 4 tons are being stopped at the 12 mile marker on the Hilo side before Honomu. Coming from Honokaa larger vehicles are being stopped at Chin Chuck Rd. Please drive with caution in these areas.
There is no alternate route as Old Mamalahoa Kolekole Bridge has been closed for some time due to damage from Hurricane Lane.
DO NOT follow detour sign in Pepeʻekeo because that is just for local traffic for Kaupakuea Homestead Road due to the Makea Bridge closure. This is not a detour for Kolekole.
Bridge repairs are already underway and expected to take 3-4 four months depending on availability of materials.
Please continue to check this page for updates and be safe!"

There's nothing wrong with this bridge, and I'm not listening to dictator Roth and all the hand wringers around here trying to control us. It's no worse than a pothole, and I will continue to drive over it in my semi, rules be damned. It's unconstitutional for them to tell us where we can and can't drive. If you are afraid of us truckers collapsing the bridge just stay at home or drive your cars the long way around the island.
And oh, BTW, the engineers "repairing" the bridge will probably just collapse it and kill everyone. Probably like 50 people have already died thanks to traffic being redirected. It's in VAERS, sheeple.

What's the big deal? Big trucks can just take the alternate route, Waimea really isn't that far out of the way.

And the hits just keep on coming. Lane was what - 4 years ago? Your tax dollars at work...

Just talked to some friends trying to get here from Honokaa. They left at 10AM. 1 1/2 hrs. later they hadn't reached Hilo yet. Beware.
Certainty will be the death of us.

And now Hwy 11 is closed at the 16 mile marker due to a collision. Both lanes.
"There are no alternative routes".
A recurring theme...

"There are no alternative routes".
Connectivity report suggests extending Wright Road to Stainback Highway, which would provide an alternate for Volcano and all the subdivisions down to Mountain View.
Didn't we get a fuel tax increase and a GET surcharge, both for "transportation"?

Yes, now you can take the bus; the 4 hour detour will be included in your fare.

Logic suggests connecting Wright Rd (it's actually called Amaumau Rd. at its end) with/through the Powerline Rd to the Saddle Rd. Which would give all of Puna access to Kona, beaches etc., without having to go through Hilo. Stainback Highway would add alternatives to #11 but still not really create new opportunities for the community.
