SpinLaunch update.  Another $70 million that won’t be spent on jobs in Ka’u, a district that can’t even keep a Foodland open because residents shoplifted it out of business.

SpinLaunch said on Tuesday that it raised $71 million in funding during its second round of financing. The California-based company said it will use the funds to further develop an unconventional system for launching small payloads to Earth orbit.

With the Series B funding round complete, SpinLaunch has now raised a total of $150 million

They should print that in the local newspaper alongside pictures of the hysterical ignorant types railing against it.

The Irony of spin launch is that had they came to Hawaii, they would have spent all that delicious money into the local economy before they figured out it wont work packed up their bags and went home.

We should be so lucky to have startups coming here to do their R&D, whatever the outcome!

They have already had a successful test launch.

From the article you posted:

"As impressive as it may be to spin an object faster than the speed of sound and then catapult it upward, to put satellites into orbit, objects have to travel to more than 17,000 miles per hour, or roughly 17 times faster than its test flights thus far."

I'm not holding my breath.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Presumably they did the math before investing millions of dollars and years of their lives!

They will still need fuel to achieve orbit, but only about 25% of the amount needed for that much payload on a traditional rocket. I suspect there might be uses for the launcher that don't require fuel as well, like launching drones and weather equipment.
