It's based on the Federal funding running out at the end of March. Convincing Hawaii taxpayers to come up with $3M/month for Safe Travels might be a hard sell, unless maybe HTA is willing to pay for it out of their budget.

Because, mandate or not, it seems to me protecting oneself from another's folly has become an individual sport, as opposed to the group exercise the gov tried to get everyone to cooperate through. So, where we all were, in theory at least, wearing semi functional masks who's best attribute was to limit the users exhaling breath, now if one wants protection we have to rely upon it at the point of inhaling exclusively. 

The mask I linked to offers a very good seal and almost complete filtration. And, since I became comfortable with it, I find the stress I was experiencing in being concerned about other's behavior when in close proximity has diminished remarkably since I am no longer dependent upon them for my own wellbeing.

The CDC has made their thoughts on the spread of Covid outdoors very well known.  Feel free to do your own research.

At this point we should be able to go maskless at Makuu and dare I say it - eat at the picnic tables FFS!

Down to Earth foods on Maui has returned to offering their hot food and salad bar, along with outside seating for enjoying it. About time Island Naturals does the same.

I asked about this a couple months ago. The answer was, "county rules". Iʻm not sure what the danger is in sitting outside, at a table by myself, at least ten feet from anyone walking by.

For me, itʻs less about being bothered by wearing them, than in having it be just a compulsory symbolic gesture.  People sit in restaurants talking and laughing maskless and then are told to wear a mask as they quickly enter and exit, mouths closed and in contact with others for about five seconds.  Yes, everyone wearing masks lowers the spread.  Lockdowns lower it even more.  But I donʻt think anyone wants to go back to that.
     In the beginning, when we didnʻt know much about the virus,  I fully supported mask wearing but I think weʻve all learned enough to know when we are putting ourselves in a risky situation.  And everyone has a different opinion of what is "risky".  I think itʻs time to let people make their own decisions.

Agree with all of this, but I'm not convinced anything worked except test/quarantine + contact tracing.

I would say there just isn't good evidence to support that either slowed the spread (or that they didn't to be fair), just that the best studies show negative or extremely limited effect. It's a shame we didn't actually run some really high quality clinical trials with near 100% masking considering we're the richest country on earth. Now we'll never know for sure.

Same goes for lockdowns, I think though that it is likely it may have helped in some rare situations, but generally they didn't and were ill-timed.

Yeah I saw some today, while locals walked around without any. I wondered the exact same thing too.

Do they sell filters that stop the spread of covid that fit that mask ?

The filters have charcoal and different chemicals to protect you from whatever hazard you are dealing with. I didn't know they had a covid filter.

I have posted wonderfully researched and non biased mask studies here on PW. Each time they were deleted. Why Rob ? There is no one doing stuff like this here. IMO, this should be allowed on PW ( kuliana kine ) in the name of awareness, safety and public, wellness. Why do you delete these Rob when this is REAL WORLD information that effects us all ?

Masks work for stopping the spread of covid !
