May the trials and tribulations of the past remain in the past as the clock strikes midnight and may the new year usher in renewed hope, health, happiness, and heaps of prosperity.

Happy New Year everyone. In my neighborhood last night it sounded like Viet Nam! There was so much smoke you couldn't see to the end of the street! Of course my 16 year-old son had to get some fireworks out at Malama Market and my dog Chuy spent the night under the bed! I am amazed at the amount of fireworks that go off. They're illegal in Arizona with all the dry brush and firehazard stuff, so you can't imagine what a thrill it was for Kyle.

Happy New Year!
You think the fireworks were bad where you were, you should have been in downtown Hilo. There was a cloud over the city and, as usual, I'm sure the hospital had to open up their downstairs conference rooms for people with respiratory problems.
I, personally, spent the night with three terrified dogs until 1am.

Carrie and John, I feel for you and your pups.
I was all prepared for a real doozie. Doggie valium was at the ready. Lucky for me (and pooch) folks in Volcano took it easy. We had about ten minutes of noise at midnight, but otherwise blissfully quiet.
Hau'oli makahiki hou, to all. I am looking forward to my first full year on this wonderful island. ; )

John, you are so right about downtown hilo. I live in Hilo and my neighbors have been shooting off fireworks for two days straight. We're choking on the smoke and our cat won't go outside, she is so freaked out. You would think that they would run out, but no there seems to be an endless supply. My husband is a combat vet and he's started to talk about how easy it would be to "pick off" the neighbors. Just kidding. But, seriously it's driving us crazy.
