The Hawaiʻi Attorney General issued a statement on Tuesday saying the State will no longer pursue the charges connected to the obstruction of the Mauna Kea Access Road on July 17, 2019.

I have decided that the continued pursuit of these cases is not in the best interests of the people of the State of Hawaiʻi. The Department of the Attorney General remains committed to upholding the rule of law, and any violations of State law will remain subject to prosecution to the fullest extent possible.”

Except in certain cases.  They did have their own town with a stop light and plain clothes "law" "officials" after all.  Let's keep overreach by big state government out of the allegations, and call it a "local" matter.

I read this as "may be" prosecuted, not "will be".

I would be curious if there were any letters to the editor, or articles opposing construction of the road to the summit of Mauna Kea, or the telescopes at that time.  Or what technologies and infrastructure specically overwhelmed Native Hawaiians?  Did they oppose any new technology?  Infrastructure? Expansion of the electrical network, phones, tv, etc?

Requires approval of the project by the community through a referendum of nearby adult residents except for projects within the Mauna Kea science reserve, which require a referendum by all adult residents of the county in which the Mauna Kea science reserve is located.


UH even gets to pay for the referendum!
