During the pandemic, my hubby and I streamed all sorts of old TV shows, movies, etc.

And although this is not a movie or series per se, one of the genres we found - on almost all online streaming services that we fell in love with was rock music concerts.

I had no idea how many truly wonderful old time 1960's/70's/80's rock stars out there that still perform - most in the recent 2 decades with full 100 plus piece orchestras.

From surviving Beatles, the Eagles, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Supertramp, Roy Orbison, Richard Ashcroft....... the list goes on and on.

Our favorite 2 concerts we found were:

"Concert for George"

This was filmed on November 29, 2002 - exactly one year after George Harrison's death at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The event was organized by Harrison's widow, Olivia, and his son, Dhani, and arranged under the musical direction of Eric Clapton

While the first half of the concert focused on George's dabbling with Indian music, the second half featured "George's Band" and included the surviving members of the Beatles (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr), Harrison's son Dhani Harrison, as well as musicians Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Billy Preston, Jools Holland, Albert Lee, Sam Brown, Gary Brooker, Joe Brown, Ray Cooper, Andy Fairweather-Low, Marc Mann, Dave Bronze, Klaus Voormann, Jim Keltner and several other musicians who had appeared on Harrison's recordings over the years.

You can stream it on YouTube for money - even though most of it has been put up in segments for free - but I promise you - one hell of a good musical and a 2-hour tears in your eyes performance:

The second one features Tommy Shaw from STYX. It's called "Sing for the Day!"

Back in 2006, STYX did a performance with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra. Unfortunately, what recordings of that performance that exist are very poor in video and audio quality.

However, in 2016, Tommy Shaw did a solo performance with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra which is mainly very talented high school aged youth.

It was one of the most touching performances I've seen! The kids in this have talent beyond talent on top of talent! It's on Amazon prime for rent.

Another movie both my husband and I loved during the pandemic was "Call Me By Your Name"

Such lovely filming locations, superb and excellent acting with such a poignant warm and inspiring story line.

Watching that movie led me to a book with a similar poignant warm and inspiring story line with a twist of hilarious comedy added.

Of course, the book was a best seller and it's now been made into a movie premiering on August 11 on Prime.

It looks as though I need to watch that movie! I never heard of it until now.

I have a couple more movies to recommend. I think I mentioned it before, but since we're talking about UK-related movies, "Belfast" is an excellent film. I also recently watched "'71" which is not as light-hearted but kept me watching until the end in one go which is rare for me. Given my family background, I do have a special interest in movies like this (my father was from Belfast) but do recommend them if people are interested in the "troubles".

So, HOTPE, your "description" of "5th Beatle" reminded me of something else that happened to my husband and me in real life - and was something we watched several times during COVID timeframe as I will describe below. (My apologies in advance if you already know this stuff or have seen it. All others are encouraged to watch!)

I would first of all say that anyone over 40ish who DOES NOT LOVE THE BEATLES - has mental health issues they need to seek medical help for!

Back on June 1st and 2nd of 2010, Paul McCartney was awarded the "Gershwin Prize for Popular Song" by the Library of Congress.

He performed a "recital" at Coolidge Hall, in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress the night of June 1st, 2010. 

My husband and I were fortunate enough to see that recital. Unfortunately, for some reason that baffles me, there is no public video of that recital, except for a few short clips. 

Paul more or less reminisced about his career and how he wrote the songs with John Lennon, George Harrison and yes, even Ringo. I did not however, hear him mention you! He also then played several songs, accompanied by the Loma Mar Quartet, playing "Stradivarius" instruments - 3 violinists and one cello player. 

The value of those instruments alone is sheer mind boggling! 

The Loma Mar Quartet was formed in 1997. The members are members or principal players of the Orchestra of St. Luke's as well as internationally recognized soloists and chamber musicians.

However, the next night, on June 2nd, 2010, Paul was featured on one of the "In Performance at the White House" concerts that were hosted by PBS. To be clear - MY HUSBAND AND I DID NOT attend that concert. 

President and Mrs. Obama hosted the concert event in honor of Sir Paul McCartney's receipt of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The evening included performances by McCartney himself and Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Jonas Brothers, Herbie Hancock, Corinne Bailey Rae, Dave Grohl, Faith Hill, Emmylou Harris, Lang Lang and Jack White, with remarks and comedy by Jerry Seinfeld. President Obama presented the Gershwin Prize to McCartney during the event.

There is, fortunately, existing video of the White House performance.

And a special treat - at the very end of Paul's performance at the White House, the video goes to the recital from the night before where Paul talks about the writing of the song Yesterday and then preforms it.
