cooking Thai Food in Puna
#21
We like Ning's...hey Glen...when I mentioned to a local about the drug problem they said it was REALLY bad just 5 years ago...said Nanawale getting cleaned up as well as the Beaches/Shores area...we like it here and I think it's hard for a non-druggie to really know how bad or not bad it is - I mean I'm not familiar with anyone personally who is into that stuff.

I believe it will continue to improve as the island becomes more aware of the issue. Yes, I can spot these folks. I sit in Drug Court every Thursday and observe them. I know what tweekers look like. I do not disparage these people. There but for fortune, go I. When I am in Pahoa, I honestly don't focus on it very much, just aware of it. And not all scruffy folks are tweekers. I love scruffy and delight in getting as scruffy as possible when I am there I love Pahoa. I just wish the Thai restaurants would be open when I am there. I think I will stop now. I am probably only making it worse! Fish sauce forever!

singha in waikiki is authentic thai if you make it over to oahu.

Actually my friend, 'Singha' is not authentic by a long shot. It is very good, but not authentic. The owner is my friend, and what he does is mix Thai cooking with this new type of South Pacific/Hawaiian fusion cooking to create the taste of 'Singha'.

Keep in mind all Thai eataries in Hawaii have adjusted the taste of their food to meet the western palete. Some stuff would be down right offensive to some noses. But the old saying in Bangkok is,"smells bad, but taste great", and authentic Thai food really falls in the group. But by no means does that mean I dislike any Thai resturants in Hawaii. To me they all offer something good.
