Yeah I came across her on Big Island Thieves where she was going on about cell towers. She testified that she lived near the 17 Ave cell tower site, a few months later it was she lived next to one in Fern Forest and then next to a proposed site near Leilani which was proposed for a gravel pit.

I drove down 17th to the end and was checking it out before the road went through. She drove down to the last house where she lives with her dad, blocked the road and took pictures of me and my wife when we tried to drive by. She posted the pictures on Big Island Thieves including my name and accused me of scoping out the neighborhood for nefarious purposes. When I complained and confronted her I started getting threats from her family members.

Most are opposed because they lose their easy drive by mailbox that they can access without getting out of their cars. I'm friends with a few. They are all part of the vocal minority but are vastly outnumbered by those of us who don't have mailboxes. Many of us are tired of driving considerable distances and paying up to $700.00/year.

I don’t know if I have ever seen a single person get their mail in that way without struggling and turning into a contortionist- - and taking longer to extract their mail than if they just parked, got out, walked 10 steps and back.

I don’t think there is anybody who doesn’t want HPP residents to have a mailbox.  There are a few who refused to look at the simplest and least wasteful solution - - keep existing mailboxes, install new ones for those without.

Sorry to prolong the thread topic hijack, but I know a lot of people who won't be getting one of the shiny new mailboxes for one reason. We don't want to have to be dealing with the Keaau post office and it's surly personnel. No matter how many parcel lock boxes they install, we all know there will be occasions when making a personal appearance at the post office will be necessary. Every time I have been in that place, it has been crowded and the personnel hostile beyond belief. I will happily pay for a box at the Hilo Airport rather than deal with them.

I have a PO Box for all my mail. Amazon Pharmacy does not currently deliver to PO boxes for prescription medication. I'm currently having my meds sent to my bother in Washington and then having him send them to me every 3 months. Will these new HPP mailboxes be eligible for Amazon Pharmacy delivery of meds since it doesn't have a PO Box?

Don’t quote me on this, but if I remember correctly the new boxes will be assigned with your physical address. The boxes will be labeled sequentially by physical address, and even vacant lots will have a designated box.
The information was in one of the newsletters we received in 2023 or 2024. HPPOA office should have the most recent info.

I haven’t heard an update on when the Kaloli & 4th and Maku’u & 6th mailbox parks will open. Originally it was Nov 2023.

I’ve used the physical address of the Kurtistown Post Office plus our PO Box number now for years and have had no problem having items, including medications sent to it. 

I do as follows:

Jane Doe
17-345 Volcano Road (physical address of the PO)
Box 1234
Kurtistown, HI 96760

I don’t think it would work to have a washing machine or other large item shipped, but for all small packages, no problem!

As I understand it, the new mailboxes will use our street addresses. If we live long enough to see it happen.

Combining Chunkster’s observation about the Keaau PO workers with the potential change of address forms submitted by thousands of HPP residents, imagine the joy we can expect from both PO employees and PO customers

Just notify everyone by yourself. You can't change an address from a place like Local Local or Aloha Mail by using a USPS change of address form.

I would assume that those in HPP with an existing mailbox will be able to or maybe the USPS can do it when the new boxes are assigned.

I have changed my address 4 times since 2018 and just notify everyone I get mail from, of my new address .

Hopefully there will be enough package boxes to accommodate those packages that won't fit in the new boxes. The new boxes are large enough to fit a medium flat rate box as they are larger than the existing boxes.

Putting 8000 mailboxes along the roadways was never an option. The USPS nixed that quite a while back.

There is not enough room for the boxes and for the delivery van to safely fit without sticking out in road.

Iʻve had the same thoughts about dealing with the Kea'au PO. Iʻm thinking I should just keep my PO Box in Pahoa with the much shorter lines that will result from hundreds of people no longer going there.
