Has anyone vented a Corragted metal roof. The roof's I have seen have no venting in the top area. You would venting would be code.I would like to vent my roof and don't like
the ridge vents they sell at HPM. It is plastic that is placed below the ridge cap.I wonder if I could just put a flat flashing type. Anyfeeback would be appreciated.

Our house plans just had a screened vent at each end on the gables. I added an extra to each end and added an attic fan at one end. It is on a thermostat so it comes on when it get about 125 degrees. I can also have a switch in the bedroom for the fan so if I want I can turn the thermostat down to a lower temp. and control it that way. The more holes you put through your tin the better chance of leaks down the road.
AFTER looking at the photos of your house my idea won't work! NO gables! House is looking good though!

I bought a solar powered attic vent fan and had it installed on my roof after the roofing was installed. My builder did the job quite nicely. The fan operates all day long and at no cost! The unit cost a little over $400.It seemed like the easiest and most cost effective way to go.I was just looking to see where I purchased the unit, but so far ,wouldn't you know it,I can't find my paperwork.Though I do know i bought it off ebay through a dealer in Arizona.Hope this helps.Your house looks great!

Another idea might be to install a cupola at the peak. I've seen one on Hwy 19 above Hilo but can't recall the mile marker. Your latest pics are awesome.

Well, old style, they vented hip roofs by putting a straight ridge cap over corrugated metal roofs without any closure strips so there is a line of small openings all along the ridge cap. Lets in bugs, though, although the geckos should be able to eat most of them.

good venting article, speaks on why venting a diagonal hip is a bad idea....

We're looking for a solution to this problem, too. What about using the spinning type of vent (sometimes called a barn vent?) which uses the wind to exhaust hot air from the attic, at the peak of the roof? Any experience with this, or advice? Would it be difficult to seal it with a corrugated roof? This is an issue with the hip roofs, for sure....

I have seen the continuous soffit vent work well. Cupolas during the design process seem to be a popular solution right now also.

The sealed attics are becoming more prevalent here in S. Fl. It is supposed to work very well but I admit to not fully understanding the concept. The turbines asked about earlier do work well but have (IMHO)serious drawbacks. They make noise, which would be especially noticible on a metal roof, the noise gets worse with age, and they must be removed and capped before cyclones hit.

We have a gable end solar powered vent that we purchased at the Kona Lowes (somewhere around $300). They also have through the roof vents, but agree with Royall on the holes in the roof, the fewer they better. The wind turbine vents have the added problem herre of corrosion, even the aluminum ones...so we went with the soar (also had a gable end). I have seen one contractor that used fiberglass screen over the ridge beams, then placed the ridge foam, tin & cap....seemed to be one way of creating a ridge vent, but don't have a clue if was a to code way of doing it.
