SpaceX Landing Zone Near Hawaii
#1
When I read this between the lines I ask myself, can he aim as well as he claims he can aim?

Elon Musk wants to splashdown his SpaceX rockets in a much larger area in Hawaii waters and Hawaii residents are encouraged to weigh in.

The space exploration company is asking the FAA for a landing zone about 20 times larger than its current zone.

A map would have helped (not your fault, HOPTE)

If it was mine to do I would send Elon packing. He is a dictator wannabe.. born and raised on the milk of apartheid.. and anyone giving him money for anything is financing a white nationalist regime.. he's gotta go. But then, in the current insanity he's the man.. so if folks don't give him what he wants he's going to take it by force.

Though, in this particular instance, it is heartwarming to see so many standing up against him.

According to this article, there was apparently a virtual call on Monday with the FAA and Native Hawaiians and Hawaii residents joined the public meeting along with some Texans as well and gave the FAA an earful!

Starship experienced a “rapid unscheduled disassembly” today.
It blew up. Over a wide area.
Elon might have to revise his landing zone request, or debris field to an even wider area.  Zuckerberg now has a use for his underground bunker, or Hawaiian basement.

"rapid unscheduled disassembly"

When I used that term in front of my 15-year-old grandson, I got the infamous "boomer" eye roll and was promptly corrected:

It is called a "RUD" per Musk*
*May or may not be the President of the United States

My grandson did score some interesting clips off of social media of this RUD as it happens: (sorry they are "shorts" and cannot be embedded)

That's a perfect description! I've seen one re-entry of space debris from Hawaii, but it was nowhere near as spectacular as that _ I just happened to be checking on sky conditions in the middle of the night outside the observatory on MK and saw this bright light somewhere in the South which then broke up into several small pieces which didn't spread out very much and stayed on essentially the same bearing. I remember very well that the pieces all glowed green, which was weird, and it only lasted 10 seconds or so before all the debris faded.

As for this event, I wish I could have seen it with my own eyes! I've since listened to one or two ATC recordings during the closure of air space over the Caribbean area when flights were told to divert or hold to avoid the debris area when one arrogant pilot told everyone it was just a bunch of Starlink satellites.

HOTPE—Either I have a case of Deja vu, or I think you posted the same thing above for the first launch of the starship! Maybe wait until the thing gets near Hawaii before letting us know! I'm not saying you're jinxing things...

PS. I see the US FAA has temporarily grounded SpaceX. Can't say I'm surprised.
