"It's either that or a $29.00 Wolfgang Puck pizza."

That's because you ordered it with pineapple!

I agree....I don't think it will make it. I can get a delicious bacon cheddar burger with all the trimmings at Kaleo's in Orchidland including fries (or salad) for 15.00 and I'm not limited to just shakes or beer for drinks (full bar).

The single patty is $15.00 and comes with fries. They have a full bar along with the beer.

The fries are much better than Kaleo's.

I agree that they probably won't make it. I love the Kaleo's in Orchidland.

Yea that's the thing, you can go to Kaleos and get a great burger and/or a lot of other things.  Lady Tang and I are rarely both in the mood for a burger but often one or the other of us is just wanting that burger.

Chunkster I agree that In-N-Out is the way. Imagine one of those in Puna.  MMM

When in Texas, a Whataburger is what a burger should be.

If you're on a budget, Black Rock makes an OK burger and fries for less than it costs at McDonalds and you can have a range of beverages. They need to fry the fries a little longer though.

At the end of the day, the rent is too damn high at Puna Makai. I bet the insurance is through the roof for businesses as well. Hard to make a go of it and keep prices that fit the local budget.
I wish you all the best.

Deli counter at Orchidland store makes a decent cheeseburger for (IIRC) under $10

Went to the new Smash Daddy's restaurant in Pahoa today. We were not impressed. The bar couldn't make a Cadillac Margarita because they had nothing to float on top. We were forced to have regular margarita's and they were "just OK"...but the burgers were nowhere near as good as Kaleo's in Orchidland or Luguin's in Pahoa. And on top of that you have to order separately for food service and for the bar service. They can't be on the same bill. The staff were nice but I don't think we will come here again.

My son and grandson went there about 2 weeks ago and all they did was rave about it. They then went back there today and said never again.

Also experienced the order food and bar separate but were told it's because the food servers are minors.

Again, from my son and grandson and while the culinary tastes of my grandson are virtually unlimited, for him to say "NOT AGAIN" says something.
