Concrete Contractor
#1
I have a friend that needs a 2,100 sq ft concrete slab poured at her place in HPP. I will need a 1,050 sq ft slab at my place also in HPP; however I will also need a concrete contractor to help with my rastra blocks that requires rebar as well as more concrete to secure them together.

So far my friend has gotten bids that seem extremely high for her slab: $27,000 and $17,000. Who do you suggest we call for bids? My friend is ready to build. I should have my permit in a month.

Call Brian Ley at 345-9049. He is a general contractor in Puna, and an associate of mine, so I can vouch for him. Tell him Mark referred you.
Aloha,

We got a bid of around $10 sq ft which seems to fit right in with your bids...although $27,000 seems extreme.

If I was going to have any concrete work done, I would contact cat who posts some really good advice here.

Look at our building album ( http://picasaweb.google.com/kaptkimo/BUI...5280520546 )and get the number off the Puna concrete pumping truck - contact them. Gabe and his crew did a great job for us. We really think he's the best.

Hey Jim,

Your house looks good. I thought you were going with catchment under lanai? And we have some friends who are your neighbors down Seaview just abit - Chris and Bernadette. They are very nice and just building too! Not as far along as you though!

Sounds a little high on the $27K. I have been getting bids at no more than $8/sf....more around $6-8/sf

We did all our own prep work; forms, rebar, wire mesh, termite spray, and plastic moisture barrier. The concrete and finishing worked out to about $4.50 per square foot.
