Big Island vs. Taiwan
#1
We were on vacation in Taiwan and we invested in a property there. (I always believed in international real estate and used to own land in Fiji too.) I uploaded some photos of our new condo in Taichong. http://community.webshots.com/album/559460707OAslyU It still blows my mind how much the price difference is for the same quality in the two places. A condo like this would be at least $1M here (heck, it even has a movie theatre for the residents!) and we paid just a fraction of that there. (The pictures are of Phase I and we bought in Phase II that supposedly will be even nicer. It will be finished in August.) Oh, 20 year fixed mortgage is 2.3% and the monthly maintenance fee is $40!

Quality !

The 2.3% is great , but the $40 mos. maintenance is amazing.

At that rate, you should have splurged on an entire floor.

Whoa! Nice place John. How big is the condo? Does Kathy have family there who also purchased? What a gorgeous place!

Actually, there was someone buying an entire floor when we were there. Ours is 2BD, about 800 sq.ft. We didn't want to spend/buy more because we are planning to buy a condo in Malaysia too. Cathy always wanted to buy a condo in Taiwan and you know how it is, if she is happy I am happy! Smile (Well, actually, I also believe it's a good investment. I bought three acres in Fiji in 1998 and sold it with a 400% profit last year. I constantly study the international market and try to locate good deals and exploding areas. My sister bought a condo on my recommendation in Sanya - China less than two years ago and it already increased by 50% in value.)

John - I know how hard you work and that you won't be able to spend a ton of time there.

My wife and I would be happy to keep an eye on the place for you from time to time. We'd even buy our own plane tickets.

sounds like a great deal, however aren't you worried about china? i don't think it will be too much longer and they will take back the island, after all who's going to stop them? they've got the U.S. so dependent on them, i doubt we would start a war with them.

Thank you! Please take an application form and a bus ticket to Chicago. Why Chicago?! That's where the end of the line is! SmileSmileSmile

No, I am not worried about China, I went to China two years ago and I saw what was happening there. I was expecting people in uniforms on bycicles and I found thriving economy instead. China is not stupid and will not destroy a golden goose. Taiwan most likely will be just like another Hong Kong. It will not be much time before they will have direct flights between the two countries and Taiwan will only benefit from that.

Is that a 30 year mortage at that percent, and was that a foreign company or American owned?
