This is probably a dumb question, but what, exactly, goes into making a house pad. Is this simply a matter of leveling the lot where the house is going to go, or are other materials brought in as well? Also, do you normally put in the drive way when the house pad is created?
In another post, someone is budgeting about $2000 for this task. Does this seem reasonable?
Thank you...

NO. You usually do the driveway at the same time as the housepad because the bulldozer has to cut to get onto the housepad site so if they are going to cut a swath anyway might as well be the driveway. The cost depends on the size/length of the pad and driveway.
Step 1 - bulldoze driveway / housepad
Step 2 - back fill with big rock any pukas or unlevel spots with big rock or 6- from quarry
Step 3 - Check elevations especially if slab
Step 4 - bring gravel to cover housepad (usually 3/4- or basecourse)
Step 5 - gravel or cinder for driveway
(I prefer gravel, you will fight cinder to the last day you live there).
I also suggest at the same time you have the equipment there you put in the wastewater system.
All MHO. Good luck.
